This beautiful atmospheric Italian restaurant had a friendly and european ambience. At first when the waiter showed us to our table it felt very claustrophobic and lacked privacy. This was then overshadowed by the decor and the courteous staff. Started with Aperol Spritz and Mojito Limoncello, I believe the Limoncello wasnt tasted by the bartender before serving it as it wasnt balanced well and lacked flavours. We had the Misto Di Mare and the Supreme Garlic Bread for starters. Misto Di Mare is like a mix of seafood cooked in tomato sauce. It was meant to be served with Focaccia but was served with toasted sliced white bread. For mains we had Vulcano Pizza and Anatra Con Gnocchi. The pizza was hot (i mean spicy, hot) and even tasted better with some extra virgin olive oil. About the gnocchi with the duck, it felt like they served too much duck and too little gnocchi. The gnocchi should have been the star of the show. That is not to say that the duck was the star of the show either, without a crispy skin and appropriate seasoning. For desserts we had a shot of Sambuca as we were too full from the mains. Overall, the staff and the pizza was the highlight of the evening. Attention to small details could make this a 4 star review.
Scalini for good Italian in Belfast. Scalini is an Italian restaurant on Botanic Avenue in the middle of the student quarter near Queen’s University. It has always been fairly busy when I have eaten there. The food is always good and sometimes quite excellent. I recently had a dish of seafood with linguine (linguine pescatora) that was really excellent, and just full of shellfish — no skimping there. The wines are nice, and the Italian coffee is really good. The prices seem reasonable, and the service is prompt and friendly. The atmosphere is lively, with groups of young people and families. Overall a place to return to.
