Confused and furious. Everyone seems to say the food here is great…but then I wouldn’t know, because when my boyfriend and I turned up this evening for our anniversary dinner the place was boarded up shut at 8pm, obviously undergoing some sort of renovation. Now if we had turned up without booking we would put it down to bad luck but we had phoned up that afternoon and booked a table! How hard can it be to say ‘oh by the way we are renovating’ I mean really! The worst part was that we’d already paid for the meal as a deal through livingsocial and they knew this so no excuse for not telling us. Also when my boyfriend phoned to say ‘we are standing outside (in the bucketing rain!) they were apparantly really unapologetic and just said ‘yeah we though we might open tonight but it didn’t happen’ – thanks for the phonecall in advance! Ridiculous. I’m not sure what to do now..it’s put me right off saving our voucher for another time and going there as they are so unprofessional..so probably try and claim the money back, which is a shame because we were looking so so forward to this. I’m still so shocked that we didn’t even recieve a phone call, a warning or an apology.

Buffet. Ozzi has returned and the buffet is back to being first class again!04 Jan, 2011Assams Buffet lunch. While still a great restaurant, the buffet is not as good as it used to be.If you dont arrive early the buffet dishes tend to run out and are not replaced.Hopefully this will be noted and things put right as its still great value!

It was Fandan! Food was amazing: good portions, reasonably priced and friendly waiting staff. Impressive presentation of your meal and naans as wide as the table. Tandoori chicken was smoking hot!

Best Indian meal by far. My favourite indian meals were previously 1. some obscure place in san fransisco 2. bombay palace in London 3. ashoka / mother india in glasgow – but i would say that Assams is definitely the best in Glasgow and Edinburgh.I had green chill and fish pakora, that was supremely fresh, light and huge portions. Which is the only thing we would do when returning is not to order so much food. A starter and main course would’ve been enough to share between two.

The Doll and i ventured in December time 2009 and were quite impressed with decor,But staff were very untidy looking and to say we were put off,Was an understatment,But we grin and bared it and i would have top say that food was 100% 1st class,The Doll knows her Indians,As well as i,We both were mightly impressed

JUNKMAIL CAN BE GOOD. I received a takeaway menu through the door, so we decided to try the food. We enjoyed their food so much that we decided to go in for a meal on Sunday. I have to say I felt we were going to get the same standard as we enjoyed our take away. The food was immensely better each dish you could tell was cooked fresh to order. Don’t get me wrong the take away was really good but sitting in the restaurant was much much better. They have a choice of having full meals or you could have tapas style portions which are great if you want to try different dishes. The service was great the staff was very smiley and always polite, the restaurant was clean with a nice vibe to it and the atmosphere was great having the live music on too. I use to hate menus coming through my door but I guess there is always 1 gem that you find in amongst the rest. Best of all whilst there we were offered to sign up for their membership card which we did and now we can have 20% discounts on our takeaways as well as some great meal offers

    M. Osmond. What a transformation in this place over the last few months. Now very busy at times but retains a personal touch. BYOB is a great touch, staff very friendly and approachable – chef’s products are wonderful and never cease to keep us happy. Try the tapas menu early evening -a great way to sample loads of tastes. Well worth a visit – you will no doubt return many times.
