Have visited Bruntsfield on many occasions and thought I’d give their Gullane cafe a try. Wasn’t disappointed. Ordered the lovely apple tart. My main complaint with both places is that traditionally in Germany all their tarts and apple strudels are never served warmed. And so be warned. It’ll come cold. In addition, no cake or tart will be served with ice cream or custard.

Amazing place. Fresh bread, delicious and pleasing to the eye cakes plus Leberkase and much more. Quick and friendly service. It is like sitting in a proper German cafe. foodanddrinkglasgow.co.uk

I love the cakes from here, the only issue is they are soooo big (but I’m a wee piggy so I scoff them anyways!) I got cherry and almond tea today , drink it with a dash of milk. It’s like bakewell tart in liquid form. Delightful, however I now need to sleep all this cake off

Brunch in Brunstfield anyone? Well, Falko is everything you could wish for. This German bakery serves a mean brunch with several amazing options. I tend to go for their tasty meat and cheese board, along with a nice cup of tea. And, then, some cake. It may be tiny and the staff may not be too friendly but it is an excellent choice for breakfast any day of the week. madaboutravel.com

Falko is a delightful, olde-worlde German bakery and a beloved Sunday brunch staple The food is delicious, the coffee is great and the decor is charmingly authentic. Little details such as the addition of wooden handles to the menus, silver serving plates and formally dressed staff truly bring Germany to life in Brunstfield and set this place apart.I invariably order the Swiss Toast (homemade sourdough bread topped with Bavarian ham, Gouda bchamel) for breakfast or the Falko meat, cheese and chutney platter if I venture there lunch. A frighteningly addictive apple strudel always follows and I can never resist picking up a loaf of the Haus bread to take home with me. This venue is a gem that every Edinburgh food enthusiast should know about it. glamourglobe.com

The strudel is awesome. The bread is awesome. The best though is the Rosinenbrotchen. Lived off these a few years ago when studying at the nearby uni.

Cake Meister. In probably the most fiercely fought area of Edinburgh, a little slice of Germany is represented by this bakery / cafe. In the door and to the left is the counter with a substantial selection of cakes and breads. The dining area takes up the wall to the right. Although not original, the interior is beautifully done with dark paneling, whitewashed walls and polished wooden floor. I opted for the strawberry gateau and a latte and was not disappointed. The cake was rich, moist and delightful and the coffee was more than acceptable. I loved it and recommend it highly. However, be sure to get your towel on a seat early as it is one busy place !!
