A Must VisitThis has got to be one of the best bars in Edinburgh. Cracking beer and cider. If the oatmeal stout is on, try it. Food was amazing, haggis stack and burgers top notch. Chris and Chris did a top job..

A lovely, quaint pub, which is sadly never ripe with trade because of it’s location. Just further up the road are the bars of No1 on the High Street (formerly the Tass) and The World’s End, both in prime locations for tourist trade. For an extra few minutes walk, the Canons’ Gait bar is a joy to behold with a fantastic range of real ales and spirits – including some fine single malt whisky. The black marble and red contrast brilliantly to introduce a sense of style around the bar, and the food further hammers this point home, like a nail that hangs a family portrait perfectly above a fireplace. The manager knows his food, and this in turn leads him to hire a chef capable of producing a classic, yet more refined menu. Some of the specials are terrific, but the Venison Stew which is currently on the menu is a treat for a deprived tongue. Some of the specials include brawn, which was a surprise to see in a bar, but a welcome one all the same. The Canons’ Gait also has a downstairs area, mostly used for the Peter Buckley Hill Free Fringe, and comedians such as Ed Byrne have taken to the stage to perform. A gem of a bar, which is hidden in plain sight.
