Popped in here for a drink whilst waiting for a table in a nearby restaurant. Nice little bar, plenty going on with the decoration. Service was friendly, we didn’t eat here to can’t comment on the food!

Located in West End, Au Bar is a cosy sports bar. It had the standard menu for breakfast, starters, grills and burgers. We decided to try the BBQ Chicken Burger and it was delicious. It has sliced chicken soaked in BBQ sauce served with fat fries and chilli sauce. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed making it ideal for game nights and dinner. The service is fair and the prices are affordable.

I’ve been to Au Bar couple of times. One time there was a pub quiz happening at the back of the restaurant, another time there was a football match on the screens and I also popped in during the day for a coffee when it was quite quiet. Overall, a nice cosy pub. They do pub food as well but I haven’t eaten there. Friendly stuff and they have some outside tables for when the weather is good.

  • The Spartacan Pub Review

A truly intriguing little spot, at first glance a prettily adorned pub but upon further inspection a French twist on the Edinburgh street-corner alehouse. The wrought iron framing around the bar and the art nouveau stylings of the external doors should’ve been a giveaway, but it does take a moment to realise there’s something more interesting on show here. They don’t sacrifice anything by way of drink selection – whiskies abound, and the hidden gem on tap is the potent Thistly Cross Original, which unlike its Traditional counterpart hits you with apple juice sweetness and 7.2% ABV. It’s the most merry intoxication I’ve experienced, time and time again. For all the good taste and care that has gone into interior design and drink choice, it can sometimes lack a little in atmosphere. But if you’re with a crowd capable of overcoming that themselves, I’d fancy that there are few pubs to match it on the west side of town, and the Thistly Cross alone behoves the pilgrimage.
