Another burger joint that has cropped up in Edinburgh in the recent months, not that I mind as I do love a good burger; and I am forever on the hunt for the best Burger in the Burgh!I hadn’t really heard about Belted Burgers and it was only through a voucher offer that I decided to visit. The place has the look and feel of a burger joint – fun, quirky & youthful with lots of wooden panelling, astroturf on the ceiling and plenty of cow imagery. Its open plan with a slight industrial feel. Seats are comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful; happy to accept a voucher (I did have to book in advance). The voucher was for 2 burgers, chips and 2 sides. We could choose from the Belted Burger (Classic), the Bushnell Burger (gluten free) or the Cheese Burger with a wide range of cheesey choice. We opted for the Cheese Burgers, one with halloumi cheese and the other with blue cheese. For sides it was the onion rings and the purple slaw. Our food arrived in no time at all. It was hot and freshly made. The chips were more like slithers of potato and fried – a nice twist of a classic straight cut chip. They were crispy and soft on the inside. The Burgers were pink in the middle (just how I like mine) but for my friend it was a little too pink. I am not sure if this is how they cook all the burgers, but it might have been nice to have been asked. The burger was nice – a fresh pink patty, grilled halloumi cheese in a soft bun. It was a cheeseburger. Not the best cheeseburger but certainly not the worst cheeseburger. The slaw was goooood. Crunchy with just enough mayo to combine it; and the onion rings were coasted it a lovely crispy breaded batter, nice and crunchy with sofy silky onion on the inside. Initially we were going to skip dessert but we both needed a wee pick-me-up and ended up indulging in Sundaes. I opted for the Fudge Sundae and my friend the Strawberry Sundae. The Fudge Sundae came with lots of cream (wish it had been real whipped cream and not squirty cream!); fudge pieces, chocolate sauce and two big scoops of ice cream. The strawberry came with lots of fresh strawberries, lots of cream and ice cream. The perfect end to girlie catch-up dinner night out. This is a burger joint and it does what it says on the tin! It’s in a handy spot just down from Princes street and George Street; and no doubt will do well during the festival season. tartanspoon.co.uk
