We’re big fans of Castello. Great Allpress coffee, lovingly prepared from espresso to macchiato to piccolo to flat white – all top notch. Outdoor seating with a great view of the famed castle. Very nice soups with an emphasis on vegetarian, plus yummy cakes
Popped in for a coffee and a snack after we’d been recommended Castello Coffee by a colleague at our work training. Definitely lived up to the recommendation, Long Black was spot on and the Palma ham and Gruyere croissant was super tasty! I’d definitely pop in again anytime I’m near by ??
I bloody love this place. Any time I’m nearby I always have to go and grab a drink. With the current trend towards trendy and the habit of barristas to sneer at you if you do anything to their beverage except worship it, it’s a glorious change to find a place with great coffee and no attitude. The staff in here are all delightful, managing to be efficient and friendly all at once. I’ve never failed to find a gluten free treat if I need it, they have a loyalty card and you get a discount if you bring your own cup.Everyone comments on it so it’s worth mentioning that the staff are rather easy on the eye as well! facebook.com
I love trying new cafes and I certainly advise on trying Castillo coffee. They are absolute lovely and always a smile when entering. The tea was beautifully displayed and had a lovely taste of fresh leaves. I absolutely loved the croissant with Nutella and banana toasted.. Yummy is the word for sure. The coffee was one of the best mum has ever tried in Edinburgh. worldoffaz.wordpress.com
Being next door to a Costa Coffee, at the Princes Street end of Castle Street, might be a blessing and a curse for Castello. People might fail to notice Castello alongside its noisy neighbour, but just as many might instantly recognise its relative superiority. I’d headed to Costa for a mid-afternoon you-know-what-you’ll-get cup and was utterly delighted to find this place right next to it, a bijou place with a few tables and chairs outside, and a place I’d already heard of as a coffee diamond to boot.On this particular trip, I had my typical flat white, and this time with a sugar. It is my favourite flat white so far on my Edinburgh travels, so a desultory explanation is in order: I like a lot of smoothness, not too much creaminess, and plenty of richness coming through too. This hit the bullseye. It’s also worth saying that the bakery items – parma ham croissants, pear scones, for example, all looked great. Farewell, Costa Coffee.
A Worthy Addition. This tiny coffee outlet is easy to miss at the castle end of Castle street. It’s nicely finished inside and has the bonus of tables outside. There is a small selection of soups and bakery goodies along with teas and chocolate. I had a large latte and it was excellent although a bit pricy. It’s a busy place even though it’s surrounded by the big chains. A good effort and recommended.
