Although I’ve never tried their famous breakfasts, Cross&Corner’s dinner are also worth the trip to Cannonmills. Apart from the lovely decoration of the place, food is deliciously good. Was there recently with a group of friends and we all had different things… which we all loved. If you want a quiet table, ask for the ones at the back. YOu will not have the views but be a bit more cosy.Update: I have been back for brunch and oh my! It is as good as people said! Great french toast, awesome drinks and super friendly staff. So need to make a habit out of this. madaboutravel.com

We stopped in for a full breakfast and it was fab! Cross and Corner is the sort of place you could easily spend your Sunday Mornings. Their breakfast menu caters for everyone and they make a great bloody Mary. The full breakfast consisted of eggs how you like them, black pudding, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast. We ordered poached eggs and they were cooked perfectly. Just the right side of being runny. Everything had a great taste and you could tell it was quality ingredients. We will definitely be back! edinburgers.co.uk

They’ve got a Bloody Mary MENU. I needn’t say any more. Why mention the gorgeous food, the great beer and the welcoming staff. Bloody Mary says it all. I choose a Red Snapper as I love Gin, and it was perfectly soothing for a Sunday – lightly spiced so you could still taste the Gin Mare it was mixed with. I ordered some Gnocchi to go with it, which was stunning with butternut squash and a light cheesy sauce. The Gnocchi themselves were homemade, light and fluffy, and not too many of them in a serving. Their platters looked good too. They serve good beers here, well, you can’t drink Bloody Mary’s all day can you?The styling is quirky but you don’t feel like you need to be a hipster to settle in for the afternoon, it’s an eclectic mix of folk all admiring the Bloody Mary I ordered and koo-ing as they realise they have a Bloody Mary MENU…I’d say anything goes here, good food if you want it, top class beers, friendly service or if you just fancy working your way through the Bloody Mary Menu I’m sure that’s fine too. Not that I have, yet… keepcalmandfannyon.blogspot.com

I walked from Old Town on a blustery, rainy evening to try this pub with a friend and was happy to take refuge inside. The drink selection was just above average and I enjoyed a nice half pint of a white wheat beer. Since we had arrived at 6, it was easy to grab a table. We managed to locate some food menus and I had the mussels in a light curry sauce which were very good. They were served with olive bread that was a bit dry and tasteless despite trying to be nice. Later I had the chocolate and raspberry roulade for dessert which was delicious but a bit dear for 5.Overall, this is a solid place but it didn’t blow me away. I’m happy to try it again sometime but its location isn’t terribly convenient for me so I don’t see myself going out of my way to come here often. While one server was really friendly and helpful, another one was just ok and kept trying to take our menu away. I enjoyed the experience but felt the food was a bit overpriced and, later in the evening, it became quite loud and hard to talk with all of the noise of the place. It is fine, though, but not terribly high on my list if places to go. edinburghtraveller.com

Edinburghs pub gentrification project has spread its tendrils to Canonmills, with the recent revamping of the nearby Other Place (the Stags Head, as was) and todays lunchtime venue, the Cross & Corner. My visit was firmly in the territory of late lunch, so the place was quite quiet when I arrived, which gave me a good opportunity to appreciate the space. Its light and airy, and really rather smart.Service was quick and friendly, throughout, with the helpful barmaid pausing to exchange a little merry banter, as she brought my cutlery and condiments. From their broad selection, which could be somewhat categorised as gastropub, I chose the celeriac soup to start, then the pea and goats cheese risotto to follow. The soup was soon with me, looking decidedly bonnie, and served with two big slices of good bread. It proved a real treat, with little mushroom profiteroles offering a nice flavour burst and textural variation. It was served in a lovely china bowl, too.The main course risotto was an equally accomplished dish. It was served just wet enough so that there was a good ooze to it. The peas gave it a lovely sweet freshness. It pleased me, muchly. So overall, the Cross & Corner really impressed me. Both dishes were elegant, stylish and beautifully presented. Id be happy to recommend it to you, and look forward to future visits when I plan to give their burger a try.ScoresBlythe scores the Cross & Corner4/5 for food4/5 for presentation4/5 for setting4/5 for servicegiving an overall 16/20I ate: celeriac soup with wild mushroom profiteroles, pea and goats cheese risottoI drank: sparkly waterrI wore: blue tweedTotal bill: 13 lunchquest.co.uk
