Swooped in here for a quick bite a couple of weeks ago. The chap at the counter was extremely friendly, taking the time to recommend several options to my friend an I. The food is simple but nice and the prices are extremely good. Hungry Henry’s is definitely worth a try if you need a quick lunch or breakfast. I had the pulled pork panini, I wasn’t blown away but it was solid home made food and for the price I can’t complain.

My travels took me to the west of the city, today, so I stopped for a quick spot of lunch at Hungry Henrys, on Slateford Road.A simple little takeaway place, their menu features a good range of home-cooked dishes, with hearty fare to the fore.I was in soup and sandwich mood, so opted for potato and sweetcorn soup and a pulled pork panini. The friendly and efficient counter man was soon about the task of ladling the soup and toasting the sandwich, ensuring that I was swiftly on my way.The soup proved to be very good. With a smooth texture, it was really well-seasoned and packed a good flavour punch. It pleased me, muchly. The panini wasnt quite so good. The pulled pork wasnt very memorable, and the cheese could have used an extra few seconds to allow it to melt a little more.So overall, I enjoyed the soup at Hungry Henrys, but was less impressed by their sandwich offering. Id be happy enough to pop back, next time Im in the neighbourhood, so do visit if you happen to be passing, as their soup is worth sampling.ScoresBlythe scores Hungry Henrys3.5/5 for food3/5 for presentation3/5 for setting3.5/5 for servicegiving an overall 13/20I ate: potato and sweetcorn soup; pulled pork paniniI wore: blue overcoatTotal bill: 3.95 lunchquest.co.uk
