Dined here yesterday for the first and definitely last time. The noise was intense, the wait staff beyond rude, lengthy wait (and it wasn’t overly busy) for food and mediocre food at best. Our waiter was one of the worst I’ve encountered and definitely shouldn’t be working in this industry. Ruined the experience completely.

Having been to several other branches of Jamie’s we’d deliberately steered clear in the fear that the closest to us would gravely disappoint, especially after some quite bad reviews. We booked for 2.30 yesterday and the restaurant was quite empty. We still managed to get a really tiny seat at the back, which was a bit of a head scratcher. Service seemed lacking when we got there but picked up as lunch went on. Have to say my choices were excellent. We shared starters of the nachos (must try), calamari (bit cold) and the artisan bread platter (yum.) I had the special pasta, Parma ham pasta which was more like pancetta but still tasty. He had the Prawn linguine which was tasty but soooo garlicky. Would for again for a reasonably priced lunch but there are definitely better Italians around.

This place is fancy. Awesome location and decoration, my favourite Jamie’s. The pasta is really good. We had the carbonara, and the garlic bread is divinal. Friendly staff.

Nice rustic place with a humble welcoming and pleasant staff. The food is excellent and classic Jamie style. Down to earth, value for money, simple but splendid !! Don’t miss it!! The mushroom antipasti could however have been better:(

I love it here, and normally don’t have a bad word to say, but I was pretty disappointed by Jamie’s tonight. We had booked a table for half 7, as we had a show at 9:15 and figured that would give us plenty time. However, we didn’t get a table till 10 to 8, even with booking in advance. The service was really good, and we got our starters very quickly, however by quarter to 9 we still hadn’t had our mains. A member of staff came over and explained there was an issue with the pasta meals, and when told that we had a show to get to he quickly went to the kitchen to sort something out. Our mains came fairly quickly after that, and while they were good it was a very rushed affair. The restaurant was clearly not prepared well enough for the busy festival season, but the manager was very apologetic even taking 50% off our bill. I would go back, just probably not during the festival fashionpolaroids.co.uk

During a weekday getaway, walking around the city centre we happened to chance upon seeing Jamie’s Italian kitchen. Obvioulsy once you come across a Jamie oliver restaurant there is no chance that you would want to miss out on this opportunity. The place is located at rose street, which is off the main road. Rose street is, however filled with small pubs, bars and restaurants.Jamie’s Italian kitchen is very well designed and you instantly feel at home. It was a Tuesday evening but the place as packed. we were only 2 people but had to wait 35 – 40 mins for a table. In the mean time we were asked to sit near the bar till a table is available. The manager (i am presuming he was the manager) was very polite and friendly. He escorted us to the bar area. You have to order at the bar itself. The bar menu is pretty large but as i was in Scotland i wanted to try a classic Scottish beer, however sadly none were available for that particular night – only foreign beers or apple cider. i opted for the apple cider and a pomegranate flavoured mocktail type drink. Before were escorted to the bar the manager had given us a pager type device, which he said would vibrate once our table was available – very impressive! The problem about a lot of the restaurants at rose street was the choice of vegetarian dishes. The great thing about Jamie’s kitchen is there was enough options and all of them sounded mouth watering. Since we were pretty hungry we rapidly ordered the italian nachos – sounded interesting! The starters did take a bit longer than usual to arrive but the bartender was good enough to keep a check and try to start up a conversation to kill time. The bar area is located slightly away from the main restaurant and was a bit quieter which made it easier for conversations. The Italian nachos finally arrived. The dish is served with crispy & fried raviolis. The ravioli are stuffed with three cheeses and herbs, served with a spicy tomato arrabiata sauce (instead of salsa). all the raviolis are topped with grated parmesan & a few red peppers. The dish was just perfect – really crispy raviolis with cheese oozing out. The arrabbiata had a perfect balance of tangy and spicy flavor! – decently portioned. By this time it had already been 30 minutes or plus and we hadn’t got a table by now. The bartender went to check and after about 5 to 10 minutes our table was ready. The manager was very apologetic and offered to give our next round of drinks complimentary since we had to wait long for the table – rose wine. From our table we could get a good view of the glass made kitchen. The kitchen was looking spotless and the restaurant was filled with fresh aromas. For the main course we ordered the artisan bread basket, gnocchi and baked maincourse. The bread basket did not come along with the main course and was served 10 minutes after the main course, we did not complain but the manager decided to offer the bread basket complimentary! The bread basket consisted of an assortment of foccacia, ciabatta, crackerbread and breadsticks, served with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and olive tapenede. The gnocchi, made from potato was served in an olive oil, green pesto & garlic based sauce with pine nuts, feta cheese, french beans and crispy elongated purple yam chips. The gnocchi was very soft and went well with the pesto sauce. The dish looked amazing due to the different colours appearing from the dish. The vegetable rotolo al forno, again looked amazing and well presented. The dish consisted of baked pasta sheets stuffed with pumpkin, squash & spinach, served in a tomato, basil & ricotta sauce & topped with Parmesan. The sauce was creamy because of the cheese and tasted perfect with the spinach and crunchy due to the breadcrumbs. The pumpkin was soft and blended well with the entire dish. The portions were decent and more than enough for two people. The ambience, service, food quality, taste & presentation was simply perfect and couldn’t ask for a better beginning to our first day in Edinburgh. The bill was 30 pounds between 2 people.
