After moving to Edinburgh last month, the first restaurant I visited all by myself was Mr. Nick’s Greek Kitchen. It was past 7PM and I could see most of them winding up in the Ocean Terminal Mall. The staff at Mr. Nicks kindly obliged to my request of sitting outside in the verandah although initially they indicated a takeaway.I ordered the Med Veg wrap and a cappuccino at the bar. The wrap was indeed very Greek and tasted good. The Cappuccino was perfectly done too. Moolah Less than 8GBP for a wrap and a coffee!Pros Good food, vegetarian choices available, very helpful and polite staff, ample seating, stunning views of the port if you choose to sit outside. Cons Be careful of the birds when you are seated outdoor.Recommended Meal with a sunset view! touryard.com
This was my second time visiting Mr. Nicks, and I must say that this last time made me change my mind about returning again. While it’s all very nice and authentic in certain aspects, it is also not. I have recently become pescaterian and find that a lot of places do not cater for the vegetarian crowd as well, still.I opted for the only vegetarian ‘meal’ on the menu, a vegetarian wrap. No description, I could have asked what was in it, but I suppose I just trusted that they knew their food stuff My husband had the chicken wrap and he asked for extra feta on his chips (which we thought were on the side, not inside)The food came very quickly which was good but I was disappointed to find that my vegetarian wrap was just iceberg lettuce, some cucumber, a bit of tomato, some red onion and greek yogurt. Rhe yogurt flavour was delicious! Not forgetting the tiny sprinkling of feta.My husband enjoyed his wrap (gyros) but that it could have had more flavour. For a vegetarian wrap from a Greek restaurant I would expect grilled vegetables, or chickpeas, maybe some olives, or halloumi?? Some olive oil or vinegar on the table would be nice too, since they do sell their own olive oil.Basically I think that Mr. Nicks is good, it could be a lot better. The restaurant is nice, it’s clean and the service was good too. It’s inviting and the prices are reasonable but certain things just need some tweaking
First time I enjoyed the Greek cuisine, and I wasn’t disappointed, nice and flavorsome, tried a couple of dishes which were recommended by the waiter together with a Meze to start. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant area, nice and bright and very clean, staff very attentive.
It’s so refreshing to find something other than a chain restaurant in Ocean Terminal. Mr Nick’s menu is simple and reasonably priced for lunch, I was munching into my chicken pitta within minutes. The chicken was crispy and succulent, folded up in a perfect pitta. The fries were few and far between and a little al dente, but this didn’t bother me overly. I followed my kebab with an enormous serving of baklava, the ideal way to increase my butter and syrup levels (which I suspected were at an all time low).I’ll happily return, the views of the sea, music and authentic food will be as close as I get to Greece for now. edinbraw.com
Theres certainly no shortage of food outlets in Ocean Terminal, with the likes of Wagamama, Pizza Express and Franky & Bennys all taking up residence. On a recent visit, Mr. Nicks seemed to be the only busy outlet, with only a couple of empty tables. We (the girlfriend and myself) decided to try it out.We both went for the Chicken Gyros pita. Its described on the menu as being wrapped with tomatoes, onion tzatziki and fries and was only 4.50. Who would have thought that including fries in a pita would be such a good idea? The meat to salad to fries ratio was spot on, and there was just enough of each to keep hunger at bay but not ruin my appetite for dinner later. The staff at Mr Nicks were both friendly and helpful, making it a delightful place to pop into for a spot of lunch. Its perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat while out shopping or grabbing some dinner before or after a visit to the cinema. Note: They don’t offer alcoholic beverages(Sorry! I didn’t get any pics during this visit.)Read the full review here: intoedinburgh.com
