As good as been last time. Nice service, good food and not overwhelmed Christmas decoration. Atmosphere was just right as well. Didn’t go crazy so just had a rib eye but was just enough and good experience again. katalinsom.com

This is a great place to have a delicious warming meal in a peaceful atmosphere. I had the Orkeny burger with extra cheese and it was absolutely delicious, one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. I also had the El Matador cocktail which was perfectly balanced. For dessert I had the salted caramel chocolate tart which was so decadent and rich, a great treat. The music was not too loud so I could enjoy my book at the same time. The staff were also very friendly and seemed to have a good rapport with each other which is important. Thanks Rick’s Hotel for a great meal, completely worth the value for money 🙂

Having spent ages in the rain deciding were to go we stumbled upon Ricks Hotel, having walked in we straight away though we were under dressed, but that didn’t matter, the staff and service was fantastic, making us feel so welcome, the drinks, cocktails, music, vibe was great. I had the mussels and oooooh they were fabulous! Felt so welcome and warmed too. Such a lovely afternoon out on a sunday for a nice cocktail and nibbles before heading to a show etc. thepunkrockprincess.com

Rick’s August 2015Quantifiable QualityEdinburgh spoils us with the quality and sheer quantity of restaurants in the city. Too often good food is accredited to only the highest end of the spectrum. Hand dived scallops and the finest fillet of prime beef. But there is something to be said for using fresh affordable ingredients well. This seems to be the prerogative for Rick’s, affordable and approachable dining.I was invited to dine with Rick’s as part of the launch of their new menu. As such I was treated to the passion of the executive chef who explained the new menu concept. This isn’t the best food in Edinburgh, but it’s not trying to be. It’s an admirable honesty which is too often lost in the war for customers. You can expect less popular and inexpensive cuts, but it’s in the preparation and execution of the dishes that Rick’s shines. This is dining for the people, making the occasion of eating out accessible. With deals for 10 at both lunch and dinner it’s an attractive ploy. With such good offers on the table, it seems a little silly in retrospect that we ordered from the full a la carte. However if the consistency in the kitchen remains the same then this is a rare deal.My starter was a goat’s cheese, pea and broad bean salad with a chilli, mint and pomegranate dressing. There is a lot going on on that small plate and the result was that some aspects of the dish where quite lost. The peas where in absentia apart from a shoot garnish, and the dressing didn’t deliver the punch it promised on the page. Good variation of textures and a beautiful pallet of colours on the plate.Main course was pig on a plate. Confit pork belly and braised cheeks, with smashed apple mashed potato and a cider jus; a definite crowd pleaser. The meat was cooked adequately enough and the apple stroked the potato with a fresh delicacy, although I found myself having to add salt. Finally dessert and a salted caramel chocolate tart and I was pleased to see not a pea shoot garnish but mint. Rich beyond extravagance and so thick as to be stodgy. I ate as much as I could with the accompanying ice cream and not a bite more. If you’re going to serve a sticky, and at times rather hard dessert on a slate (Yes it was very pretty) with no sides, give me two pieces of cutlery with which I can brace against.Service was pleasant throughout the evening, and staff were more than happy to explain dishes and drinks to us; although my glass did sit empty for most of the evening and the table setting to the left confused both diners and staff. The cocktail list is adventurous for an otherwise standard bar, and with offers on these during the week as well, I can see the modest and humble approach that Rick’s has taken really paying off. thehannarchistcookbook.com

Rick’s is one of my go to favourites in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is chic yet comfortable. The food is always top notch and the Service tremendous! You absolutely cannot beat their lunch deal of 2 people for 10 or the dinner offer of 2 courses per person fore 10. The menu just changed a few weeks ago. It’s very good but I really miss the 2 courses I always ordered from the old menu. Rick’s will always be one of my favourites.

Rick’s has not only a fabulous location but also a very reasonably priced dinner menu that includes 2 dishes for a tenner. It’s an absolute bargain! Great quality of dishes (I had the warm cheese salad and the thai green curry), good portions (bear in mind I am a light eater, so don’t expect them to be massive, that’s just not my kind of thing), very well presented and friendly staff. If you are in the area, give it a try. madaboutravel.com
