The dinner that we had were fabulous, yes, the menu doesnt look appetising but the chef cooked everything well. Its just that i wished with a place this grand, they serve more elaborate dishes. The service in another hand was excellent, and i love the cute old butler at the entrance, hes such a sweetheart.

I do love the Dome. It is the Epitome of a classy afternoon out in Edinburgh and the place we always came when we visited. Their cocktails are very well made and they happily produce anything you ask for off the menu, champagne is expensive but not overly so and the wines good. The food menu could be more exciting but the atmosphere is what counts here. Their famous Christmas decorations are a must see. forkandfizz.com

I visited The Grill Room in Edinburgh with my sisters. It was so elegant and stunning I will go back every time I visit Edinburgh. It was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The staff were so accommodating and pleasant to deal with, it really was a wonderful experience for our girls afternoon lunch. I had the beef and mushroom pie. It was gorgeous, really light puff pastry served with thick cut chips and peas. My sisters ordered asparagus and pea risotto and the club sandwich. All the dishes were so delicious. If you’re in the neighbourhood, it’s definitely a must visit.

Looks good shame about the food. I had fatty lamb served on a plate of barley porridge…pretty inedible. None of the eight adults eating with me enjoyed their meal. In a gourmet city like Edinburgh there are too many places that serve wonderful food for this place to get away with overpriced slop.

A taste of summerWith or without sun, the Garden Cafe at The Dome is perhaps one of the best places in Edinburgh for a little taste of summer. Open for the season, the cafe entrance is on Rose St where you descend a few steps to a very pretty area full of lush greenery, brightly coloured flowers, tables with umbrellas and, if needed, gas heaters. The menu consists of crowd pleasers such as soups, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, nachos and pastas but don’t let this deceive you, the quality of the food is very good and there are some very tempting versions of these popular dishes. For example, imagine for a moment, smoked salmon and crayfish girasole (sunflower shaped ravioli), Strathdon Blue cheese salad with poached pears, honey and mustard dressing and caramelised pecans, a wedge of pork, cheese and pickle pie with salad, smooth chicken liver parfait with spicy cranberry dip and oatcakes. Feeling hungry?Myself and my dining companion were and we both chose the soup of the day, watercress and potato, for starters (4.00). I have had soup at The Dome before. It has always been good and today’s was no exception. The simple, yet often neglected essentials of good stock and plenty of seasoning were both very much in evidence. The balance of potato and watercress was more or less equal and this resulted in a both satisfying and seasonal starter. The complimentary olive bread accompaniment was freshly baked, delicious and full of said olives.Next up, who can resist a pizza? I went for goat’s cheese, with roasted peppers, basil and pine nuts (9.50) and my partner had pepperoni and red onion pizza (8.50). Both were large, thin, crispy, has plenty of topping and were scrumptiously ‘fired’ at the edges. The Mediterranean flavours of my pizza combined well; juicy, fire-engine red peppers smothered in olive oil, tangy cheese, sharp fragrant basil and resinous pine nuts. My partner shared a slice of her pizza and the onions were caramelized nicely and contrasted well with the spicy meat.I failed to shoehorn it a dessert (we should have shared that pizza!) but if the mood takes you there are ice creams and sorbets, lemon tart, chocolate Bavarois, stick toffee pud and apple pie. Indulge, and enjoy your summer.

The place looks great but as for the food not somewhere I would go back to. It’s expensive and the food is average. Great place to go and chill out for a drink though.
