With amazing views of the Forth, this is a lovely quiet escape from the city streets. The food is reliably good standard- great baguettes and LOVE the cherry scones. Impressive selection of gluten free things too.
There is a reason why it is called The place to eat and that is because it caters wonderful freshly made food. I come here at least once a month and have my fix of scone with butter and jam and a large cup of soy chai latte. I bring people up with me to the top floor of John Lewis and hope for the tables next to the window area where the views of Edinburgh are just undeniably scenic. This place is busy all the time. It caters to all ages and is ultra family and children/baby/pram friendly.People sometimes don’t realise that you have to grab a tray, go round to the deli or cake counter, order then to go the till counter at the back to pay. It is a bit like a canteen service, but it has quality, warmth, spacious, cosy, bright and clean environment that differs itself to just a cafe. It has a separate coffee cafe area too. The sandwiches are a littttle over priced but the hot food is good for it’s portion size. I always come here just for it’s scone ,carrot cake, lemon drizzle, bake tarts , victoria sponge, chocolate cake and their chai lattes. I am so glad i work and live 5 minutes walk from here. It is one of my secret half hour break location where i can have some downtime, coffee and cake whilst overlooking the skyline of Edinburgh. Bliss
