After a long hiatus of 2 years I returned today to the best little sandwich shop in Glasgow. The ingredients are as tasty and fresh as they can be and as well as the usual fillings there are others you just wouldn’t find in any other buttie. The best thing about this place though is the lovely service. I was a regular till I left the country 2 years ago and I was surprised that I was not only remembered but that my tastes were too. Always service with a smile, a chat and encouragement to try something new. Thanks so much guys.

Emperors New Clothes. Piece has been successful because of its mythical status as a gourmet, but purse-friendly, sandwich shop. I have yet to have a nice sandwich here. The owners simply do not understand how flavours work together. They pressure you and pressure you to add more and more to your sandwich until you just get this horribly gooey mess of hummus, coleslaw, cheese, pastrami, god knows what kind of mayo and such chunkily cut salad that it falls immediately out of the two limp and sodden slices of brown bread they’ve attempted to contain it in. When you try to simplify your sandwich and not give in to their pressure, they’ll still sneak something in that you didn’t ask for. Today I had such rank parsnip soup it ended up being poured down the sink. It didnt’ taste anything like parsnip soup and looked like something my cat brought up. My sandwich I had to eat with a spoon. The first time I got a sandwich here I ended up in pain all afternoon – why? because they put raw savoy cabbage in their speciality coleslaw. BIG NO NO! why have i returned ? because, as much as I try to avoid it, I’m a sociable sort who likes to accompany work colleagues to different local eateries at lunch time and we all get a say in where we go! But from today, piece is a No-Go Zone for me. Please owners, listen to a Piece of my Mind – please try some of your sandwiches, they way you make them. Then you’ll understand where I’m coming from. keep the sandwiches simple – that’s not to say stop being adventurous with tastes – but stop putting the pressure on to have everything in a sandwich so you end up tasting none of it. Phew!

Outstanding sarnies, soup to die for, cake you’d kill for and the freshest, nicest coffee for miles – no matter what your culinary needs John an Tom will tempt your tastebuds and widen your waistline! It’s only a shame they’re not open for dinner… But that’s what the deli counter is for! 🙂

Not just any old sandwich this one Was made in front of me without all the stuff I don’t like with lots of things I do like in addition to some suggestions from john and tom who clearly love what they do – I don’t really do sandwiches – I do now at piece and totally cool atmosphere right on the cusp of west end / finnieston Glasgow djsb
