Very disappointed went to go to martinis knowing it shut at 9pm to find out that the place was already closed and not even a sign on the door saying y it was closed early
Located beside crolla’s i have to say it is a tough competition, the only difference is i think nardini does more selection in more fresh fruity gelatos and less variety in the menu
Having known this location in it’s previous form I would be inclined to be prejudice against Nardini’s if it weren’t for it being so worth a visit.Truly a lovely ice-cream cafe conveniently parked in the middle of Byers Road, Nardini’s is everything you would want from such an establishment. Having often visited through the day or as an after dinner treat I have had the pleasure of making my way through a good bit of it’s expansive menu. From delightful coffees to luxurious sundaes, it is always a good visit. Their ice cream range is large with steadfast favourites (your vanillas, chocolates and what have you) and innovations (After Eight ice cream for instance) alike. The service is always very friendly and efficient. The servers are able to serve up a beautiful looking (and tasting) concoction of ice cream (be it sundae or otherwise) that looks every bit the sumptuous in real life as it does on the picture menus. The cafe itself has the atmosphere of really any West End cafe – a compliment for my part. It is always bright which when coupled with the friendliness of service and delightful ice cream leads to a very pleasant experience.Whilst a little pricey for a normal ice cream by the time you’re ordering sundaes the prices level out. Certainly the quality is always worth paying for. If you are looking for a dessert parlor you can do little better.
Nardini’s is a treat. Going to Nardini’s in mid-morning or just after lunch when custom is quieter is a regular pleasure for those of us who live in Glasgow’s West End. My overseas visitors are always delighted with the environment and the service. However, it is quite misleading to call the Byres Rd gelateria a ‘restaurant’. It does not serve meals, but rather a series of panini whose contents rarely vary. Okay for a light lunch, whereas both Nardinis in Largs are proper restaurants. The staff at the Byres Rd cafe are perennially young, being largely a succession of overseas students who move on after completing their studies. All the women are slim, attractive and well-groomed, the few males, equally so. They are exceptionally pleasant and always willing to go the second mile to find a seat or sort out incoherent orders being thrown at them by visitors who are overwhelmed by the variety of gelatos and cakes and are arguing over whether they will share among several or hog a litre of ice-cream on their own. The place is exceptionally well ordered and organised, with orders being filled almost at breakneck speed. No doubt the manager, a congenial Polish Scot hopes also for a speedy turnover even if the place invites you to sit and linger over coffee and do the crosswords in the newspaper. On hot sunny days, don’t count on a seat inside or outside. The place is swamped with three and four generations of families enjoying bringing their young in for a special treat. Broad smiles are everywhere evident.
It’s Sundae Time. Off the train at Partick and a (long) stroll up the Byres Road to the legend that is Nardini’s. Arrived just before 12:00 so no problems finding a seat. Somehow expected it to be bigger but still nicely done in 50’s diner style. Anyway, after 5 mins perusing the menu, picked a rasperry ripple with fresh rasps, choc macaroons and whipped cream (diet starts next week). What can I say, not cheap for sure but every mouthful was an absolute pleasure !!
Welcome. A great addition to the West End,we truly are spoilt for choice here..one complaint..why don’t people move on when they’re finished..thank you to the staff for getting us a table..
