It might just be me. The best thing about my dinner at Spuntini’s was the lovely group of people i was dining with. Before i start i must say that out of a party of 12 or so the majority of them were happy with their meals. For me, there was just too much black pepper in the pasta sauce (if you are going to wander round with a pepper mill, which they do, why put so much in when cooking?). There was clearly chilli in the cream sauce that the mussels were served in (not mentioned in menu description). When i approached a staff member i was first told that there was no chilli in the afore mentioned mussels and then a few minutes later was told that i would be given a portion without chilli, these were well cooked and tasty. The olives (according to the menu were pitted) were not pitted, when i informed staff member i was told they had a supply problem and that was all they had, yet when a fellow diner complained they managed to locate pitted olives for him. Another diner was unimpressed with his minestrone soup and left much of it in the bowl. The staff were friendly but did bump into people as they were navigating the tables and several times they had to be prompted to bring forgotten items to the table (orange juice, coffee). The tables are too narrow for each person to have 3 plates each, which, along with all the glasses and usual tableware paraphernalia did make eating a little difficult.
2nd Chance FAIL. Gave this place once more chance after a few people posted they liked it but sadly over cooked rabbit indeed and poor service means I will never be back!
Go with the majority. This place look pretty inviting from the outside but once in we were set upon by an army of staff. Was like going into a mobile phone shop and regretting it. Food was ok but not as tasty as we were expecting from the menu descriptions and the portions a bit of a let down. Was really put off by the overkill on the amount of staff standing about though. Too many!
Fabulous!!. I have visited several times and have never been disappointed! I actually cannot believe some of the reviews on here, I honestly wondered if I was reading about the correct restaurant! Admittedly I have never eaten off the a la carte menu but have eaten from their daytime taster menu many times which is tapas style. The food is consistently excellent and fantastic value for money. And the waiting staff are friendly and attentive. If I had to fault anything it would be that several times through the meal each different staff member asks if everything is ok which after maybe 4 times becomes tiresome. A little more communication between staff would resolve this. I have visited with friends and on other occasions taken my children. Always welcomed regardless of the type of party you are with. Great service, knowledgable staff and really gorgeous dishes. I’m going back next week and literally can’t wait!!
Disgusting…. My boyfriend and I went to this place last Friday. I wish we’d read the reviews beforehand and could have avoided it. The food was disgusting. The ingredients were the cheapest of the cheap and tasted like they’d been thrown together by someone with an NC in catering. I won’t list eveything we ordered as it all tasted the same anyway. The ‘italian sausage’ was particularly bad – pale, grey, slimy and tasteless. Truly awful.
I’ve given it three strikes but now it’s out. The food is pretty dire in here. My salad was limp and over dressed, and the pizza was completely tasteless. The waiter hit my head twice with plates and knocked my cutlery on the floor, hitting me again in the process! He was unbelievably irritating and over-friendly. I won’t be back.
So-so Italiano. It took us about half an hour to figure out what to order, given the ridiculous size of the menu. Especially considering my friend was vegetarian and I have several food allergies! However, once we managed to order from our comical and very friendly waiter, the food arrived quickly, with only one dish out of 8 being wrong. Ahem.Lovely skinny chips; the king prawns were lovely with a great chilli marinade; bit dissapointed by the mozzarella sticks though- very rubbery; the pepperoni and potato frittata was more like an omelette with a hint of pepperoni and potato! However this was all forgotten when the chocolate truffle cake with amaretto ice-cream arrived. YUM.
