I have been to this coffee shop a number of times now and I cannot compliment it enough. A small yet cosy coffee shop with delicious fresh coffee and a good selection of sandwiches, toasties and cheese platters. Moreover, there is a wide selection of homemade cakes and biscuits. In accordance to the previous review it couldn’t be further from the truth as I have found the staff to be friendly, attentive and very pleasant. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The coffee shop can be a busy place on Saturdays so I would advise to reserve a table. On the whole I would recommend this delightful coffee shop for a light lunch or simply a cup of coffee and a cake.
Rude and unattentive staff. Been here a couple of times and found it to be acceptable, if cramped and service on the slow side. The baking was good and my children liked it, so wanted to return. Big mistake…Went in on a bustling Saturday morning and you would expect the staff to be on the ball, and attentive. Well, the total opposite was the case. They completely ignored us for approximately 7 minutes, then grudgingly told us that our table was ”reserved”. Did not bother to escort us to an alternative, just left us to pick all our things up, red faced. Tried to use an alternative table but was approached by an extremely brusque woman who told us that we could not sit there due to ”fire regulations”. ??! OK, I got the message,we were clearly not welcome there so we had no option but to leave (another table had not been cleaned so we couldn’t use that one) whereupon my 4 r old howled as she was so upset to have to go. Not one apology or words of regret. I felt humiliated and totally disgusted. Peebles does not need this type of hideous customer service and if this is what tourists are subjected to, no wonder the numbers are down! Why oh why have a table for 6 ”reserved” when it’s a busy time and why have a table in a place that there should not be one? And, if the table is reserved, at least tell people before they get comfy or at least have the reserved sign in view and not hidden behind menu! Oh and before I save this, the cup I saw was also encrusted with something yuk like cake crumbs…I think we had a lucky escape in the end but I still feel very upset by the whole sorry experience.
