would give it a 5 star rating if the guacamole hadnt been the only way ive ever found it in scotland – barely anything but smashed avocado, no coriander, lime, onion or chili (?!) so i wouldnt recommend ordering it – however their pico de gallo made me want to sing. these are the best tacos ive had in a long time. overpriced absolutely but worth the money just for the fact that there was thought AND seasoning behind these masterpieces. the atmosphere is laid back and really cozy – a perfect place for a perfect eve.

When a friend chose Bodega as the setting for her birthday meal I was very excited. As I huge lover of tacos I had been meaning to try this little taqueria for ages. There were 11 of us in total, which meant we took up the majority of the restaurant but unfortunately this meant that we also had to be out at a certain time to let the next group in. Because there were so many of us we did a set menu type ordering where we got a selection of starters to share, the choice of 2 tacos each and then a selection of desserts. It was 25 each for the 3 courses plus corkage, as it is BYOB. The worst part for me is choosing what to order! The regular menu has classics and something for everyone. Where as the intriguing list of specials offers even more exciting flavours. There was so much choice that I had to team up with a friend to try more flavours! We settled on buffalo chicken tacos, carne asada tacos and tempura prawn tacos. They were all very tasty, but my favourite had to be the tempura prawn. I did feel that the tacos themselves didn’t taste like the corn tacos I’m used too; the seemed a bit crunchier and bigger than usual, which made them a little dry on occasion. The selection of starters and desserts were fabulous; I can’t wait to have the salmon ceviche again and the churros were an excellent way to round off a great meal. I really enjoyed the setting and think it’s great for a quick bite after work or a celebration.

Had the avocado tempura tacos and the baja cod tacos. A really great little restaurant with BYOB and a good atmosphere. They ran out of the churros, so didn’t get a chance to try them but apparently they are really good so will definitely come back to try them and try out the other taco choices.

Great place to grab some Mexican food in Edinburgh.I popped in for a spot of lunch and my waitresses couldn’t have been friendlier. She let me know all about the specials and gave me some recommendations for my order. I started off with some guacamole and chips followed by a pulled pork with Mexican slaw and sour cream taco. The taco was extremely yummy and full of flavour. Not too plain and not too spicy. I also had some potato wedges (one of my favourite things to eat) and these were spectacular! Ill definitely be ordering them again. The price of the meal was very reasonable. Couple of extra reasons to go to bodega, they do BYOB, change their menu regularly and specialise in gluten free tacos though you defo cant tell from the taste as they are still delicious.

The first time I came here my meal was a little spoiled by a ridiculously fiery taco, and I thought prices were a little high for what you got. But everyone deserves a second chance, and thankfully Bodega redeemed itself. The menu is simple, with a few specials, and the food is full of flavour. We shared a delicious chorizo and goat cheese quesadilla, black bean dip, and guacamole then I had incredible pulled pork tacos and steak ones too. I had been disappointed that there was only one dessert option before (churros) but this time they had crocodile pie too – light-as-a-feather and, with avocado, surely one of your five-a-day? The churros sauce was a bit runny but the dough itself was rich with cinnamon. It was about 21 each for four of us including corkage for the drinks we brought, which on reflection is pretty reasonable. It’s a tight space but a relaxed one that can kick off any fiesta. 22ten.blogspot.com

If a restaurant is only going to serve one thing.. then they better do it well.. and Bodega do tacos very very well. They are also the only place I’ve come across in Edinburgh that do fish tacos.. and by geez, it’s worth going for the fish tacos alone.. I could happily do away with the rest of the menu and just have fish tacos every time. The menu is ever changing but there is usually a couple of veggie options, some flavour of pulled pork, beef and chicken. As for sides, I’d generally pass as although the tacos look quite small, they are quite filling once you’ve had 4 but the rice would be my top choice.Dessert they often have a ‘crocodile pie’ which is avocado and lime.. it’s not to my personal liking but others seem to like it.. hands down winner is the ‘apple burrito’.. stewed cinnamon apple, wrapped in a taco shell and fried until golden and crispy.. there really is no reason not to like this delicious parcel of goodness.. unless you don’t like apples.. then.. well, nevermind.Place only seats about 20 max, so would pay to book so you’re not disappointed.ps. their tacos are all made from corn, so this place is great for those that are GF!

Delicious tacos! Tacos are the one and only main, but at the same time the different choices are fantastic! The pulled pork with pineapple salsa was probably my favourite, tied with the prawn tacos. I was really excited to see chicken mole tacos on the menu, but they were a bit light on the mole although still very tasty. The beef ones were good as well, but they were my least favourite of the four I tried since they were a tad spicy for me!Plates come with two tacos (6 for a pair) but it is recommended to have two pairs (11) for a proper meal. The quality is high and the tacos are flavourful and delicious. Two tacos really won’t be much more than a snack since they are so small, but then again four tacos certainly are filling. That said, four tacos with no sides and such feels a tad overpriced for 11, considering what you receive relative to other place for an 11 or 12 full dinner. The tacos are delicious and the place is endearing, though. It is also BYOB and you can purchase drinks at the corner shop so that is quite convenient, especially if coming for dinner.Although the Bodega is pint-sized, I really like the feel of the place and the intimate atmosphere. It is a great, new, trendy place to spice up Leith Walk, too! edinburghtraveller.com
