Jeremiahs Taproom Edinburgh 18/09/2015Good Pub Grub was the call this month as we ventured to the Taproom for some burgers and beers. Theres not much that can top right? We took our seats and wrestled over the Drinks menu and salivated at the vast choice of alcohol. While the remaining club members arrived we enjoyed the standard jovial catch up since our last outing. The menu wasnt huge, which is no bad thing and we each selected a starter and a main and eagerly awaited our dishes while drinking away and enjoying the atmosphere. We tucked into our starters, Halloumi skewers, haggis fritters and pulled pork spring rolls. Feedback was good but nothing extravagant. The Halloumi was nicely done but maybe lacking an extra spark. I would say the same for the haggis and Pulled pork as well. Tasty enough but lacking a punch. We moved onto the mains after a few more beer experiments. Unfortunately it was the same outcome. I was pleased and thankful for getting the Wolfpack burger which had stated on the menu it was only for a Sunday. It was a good burger, sporting haggis, hash browns and a fried egg but still seemed quite dry. The Mexican Burger was loaded with chilli, jalapeno and sour cream but there was very little heat to be enjoyed. The Ranch burger was simple and tasty but nothing to scream about. Each burger came with fries and we also ordered some onion rings and garlic bread to keep us growing manboys going. We washed everything down with yet more beer and ordered dessert. The vast majority ordered the Brownie and enjoyed the chocolate delight while another of our esteemed members (now the only one to have appeared at EVERY food club so far) attempted the warm doughnuts with chilli chocolate sauce. These were dry, very doughy on the inside and the there was no hint of heat within the chocolate sauce. We finished the evening with more beers and our old friends Tequila and Sambucca turned up. The alcohol not the strippers. All in all I would recommend Jeremiahs for a good drink and atmosphere but not for an outstanding meal. The food was good and a great partner to fill you up while drinking but I wouldnt suggest it especially for an evening meal. Thanks to all the staff for having us.Next time Food Club are heading into Leith on 23rd October for the Spanish experience with TAPA. Looking forward to it. I came here with Food Club on Friday. The pub is great! It was buzzing and I really liked the atmosphere. We got a big table in the back which was pretty convenient but I think it could get quite loud if you’re up front by the bar. They have a large selection of beers which I liked. The waiter was knowledgable and recommended well. I went for Camden lager to start with. This beer was great and tasted like something between pilsner and lager which is probably my favourite combination. I had halloumi sticks for a starter which were good but nothing special. There is only as much halloumi as one person can eat at once and this was a little bit too much. There was also somthing missing, like a dip or cranberry sauce would be good with that. I would also put more salad with this dish. As for the main I went for ribs. These were good but not great. I ate them all but the meat wasn’t anything special. I had better elsewhere! Plus points for Jeremiah’s for having Innis & Gunn on the tap. But I have to point out that this wasn’t on the menu so unless you sit at the bar and you see it you wouldn’t know. I also had Paulander lager in a bottle which I really enjoyed. I couldn’t fit a dessert so I went for an espresso and Highland Park. Their coffee was good I’d get it again and one cannot go wrong with Highland Park. The guys had burgers which supposedly weren’t anything special and they had a brownie with ice cream for a dessert which wasn’t too good either. Overall, I’d come back to Jeremiah’s Taproom for a tipple or two but I wouldn’t go back for dinner again. There are so many better restaurants on Elm Row so if this place wants to get people in for food they need to improve their dishes and use better ingredients. No one likes mediocre!

I have a problems with pubs as I don’t drink beer and usual old pubs has bad wine. Not here. They have good wine and if you like nachos, that’s the must here. Awesome! I’m not a regular but been a few times and always had a smile on my face ( not just because the wine… ) katalinsom.com
Good value/food/sevice. The building has recently been renovated with a mix of old fixtures and contemporary design. The food was both good value and quality & the host was very welcoming. We’ll be back regularly!
Great new look for the old Elm Bar. Good selection of ales. Fills up quickly after work so get in sharpish. Looking forward to summer and a wee seat outdoors.
