I had heard about they mac & cheese and pulled pork wraps and had to have one so on a midweek day off I cycle over and hour to get one, only to find out that’s only on Friday. I pushed my sad feelings aside and ordered a pulled pork, special slaw and cheese wrap. Oh boy this was good. The meat is very flavoursome and the crunchy slaw added a nice texture. I plan to hightail it down there one Friday lunchtime and make my Mac and pork dream come true!! thehobson.co.uk
Who remembers Fleurs? We do, we loved it. Sometimes service could be a little on the grumpy side but Fleur took the time to learn the regulars names and was always so friendly, so much so that I would feel guilty if I cheated on her (with other sandwich shops). The Shore Deli took Fleurs place and I hadnt plucked up the courage to try it out until recently, you see there comes a point in life when you have to move on, try something new and take the plunge. On our first visit there was a big queue so there wouldnt be anytime to get acquainted. I went in with good intentions, to order a simple ham and cheese sandwich but what I came out with was an entirely different beast, well not really, it was still a pork product. Pulled pork to be specific. The pulled pork was served up in a wrap with coleslaw, this maximised its portability and enabled a stroll along the Water of Leith whilst chomping into the juicy delight. There was a bit of competition along the Water of Leith from the gulls, but I managed to fend them off, this was far too tasty to share. The coleslaw gave the wrap a lovely crunch, bits of celery and apple joined the pork party and were both very welcome. It was the perfect size to hold in one hand whilst taking photos with the other and it maintained structural integrity throughout its short life. The wrap was the perfect size and there was absolutely no wastage, thankfully I was able to keep the amount covering my face down to an absolute minimum.Im so glad I moved on, its true what the say theres plenty more fish down the shore and whilst its not serious yet Im hopeful we may see more of each other in the future.Original review can be found:http://www.edinblogger.com/2014/shore-deli-leith/ edinbraw.com
I’ve recently been spending more time in Leith so have been exploring the best places for lunch. After one truly awful piece of quiche in one establishment, I came across the Shore Deli close by Martin Wishart’s restaurant in Fleur’s old premises. It’s quickly become a firm favourite of mine. You’ll know by now that I rarely eat sandwiches and am always on the lookout for something delicious to eat instead. Choice is often limited, but at the Shore Deli, I’ve certainly got lots of choice.Their fritata is light, fluffy and tasty and stuffed with vegetables. It comes with either the house salad (which is well-dressed) or with a choice from their 4 or 5 mixed salads that feature each day these have plenty of ingredients that the inspired chef has put together. On days when youre feeling very hungry or if you have a large appetite, try the BBQ pulled pork and coleslaw. This comes in a wrap or, if you prefer, in a bun. Its all pulled pork should be, soft and juice and the coleslaw a perfect foil. Truth to tell the portion size is just that bit big for me!Most recently, I just fancied some soup. The chicken soup had that home made quality (in the best way possible) and was stuffed full of meat and vegetables in lovely meaty stock. There are a few tables inside so you can linger a while, and if the weather holds, sit outside and gaze over the water. What do I love about the Shore Deli? The friendly welcome you always get. The delicious ever changing menu. The reasonable prices and although I am yet to buy something from it the small, yet perfectly formed products to purchase which includes fresh eggs, flours, biscuits and more. edinburghfoody.com
