Underwhelmed. The ‘fish of the day’ was off; the potatoes had a weird herbal fishy taste; the sauce smothering it was from a jar. The mushroom gratin on rarebit was tasteless – cheese rubbery and pointless. Have you heard of horse radish sauce Chef? The chocolate and cointreau parfait was, I repeat, UNDERWHELMING. The coffee and tablet was delicious: the only thing untouched by the chefs I suspect.
Okay. Food was okay, restaurant was empty apart from us and another couple (lunchtime) and service was a bit slow for the lunchtime period in an almost empty restaurant. Choice of desserts was poor to say the least (date cake?!). Ambiance is a bit bland. Perhaps evenings are better. Will give it another try.
I really love this restaurant. Have returned several times. Good selection of Scottish good including fine steaks and their mussels are delicious. Service is good and friendly. Only downside is lack of Scottish beer/lager. There are a couple of independent brands, however was disappointed to be offered Promo. But on the while would recommend.
