Visited on a sunny Saturday Glasgow evening. It’s been said a few times but I’ll say it again anyway, this place is beautiful. A rich opulent atmosphere. Not the cheapest in town, but we believe we paid for what we got, which was fabulous surroundings, excellent service, and lovely food. Great place for a special occasion or a treat.

Decor vs Food. Easily one of the most unique and beautiful restaurants in Glasgow. I must have been a dozen times and am always still in awe of the exquisite art deco surroundings, steeped in the restaurants colourful and long history. Unfortunately I am also always disappointed with the food. Over priced and seriously lacking substance. If you visit, and because of the stunning decor I think everyone should, stick to champagne (or white wine) and oysters in the bar. You won’t be disappointed, you’ll leave with a smile on your face and have a chance to see some of Glasgow’s most spectacular interior design.

Upstairs downstairs. Since we’ve down the downstairs we thought we’d do upstairs.Starter of goats cheese and plumb puree is exactly what you’d expect – goats cheese and plumb puree. pretty good, but too much puree. I should have taken it home to spread on my toast.I choose the venison for my main. Venison was succulent and the side veg were lovely. The parmesan fried mash was a tad on the dry side though.Needless to say, she loved her oysters and main fish dishOn the whole I like The Rogano. However, you can eat food prepared by the same chefs downstairs for 1/2 the price…07 Feb, 2010Oysters a go go. Downstairs cafe is a great way to do intimate saturday lunch. The decor isn’t up to the standard of upstairs, but it seems to retain that 30’s character. Risotto, oysters and fish all good….

Fine dining. By far my favourite restaurant in Glasgow. Ideal for a special occasion.Yes it is pricey but it’s worth the extra spend .I have dined here many times but would highly reccomend chosing from the a la carte menu – the pigeon salad 2 start is beautiful, there are so many choices for the main – the scallops and the red snapper are a treat. The service is grand and the whole experience dining here is an enjoyable one.In summer if you can get a table outside i would go for this, the atmosphere from royal exchange square and the lighting works perfect for an intimate meal.

Beautiful surroundings & great food. Service can be slow at times, but food and ambience make up for it. Not just a restaurant, a real Glasgow institution.
