I’ve booked for a relaxed meal in the Trading House after hearing cocktails and atmosphere were great however I found it a bit of a let down. The food was just passable with very small portions and not a lot of taste. The service was not on the ball with us having to request for the order to be taken, dirty plates to be taken away and additional drinks to be served. However, when asking for the bill, it was at our table in seconds. We thought about staying for the cocktails but they started playing music and it was so loud (even during dinner) that we needed to leave to get our ears a rest. I would probably go back but only for drinks.
My wife and I ate here in November last year. My duck liver pate starter was cheap tasting and nasty and the bread dry and hard. My wife’s was a fish tea which was very ordinary. The place was far too brightly lit and felt less inviting than any wetherspoons I’ve visited. Expensive, totally unimaginative menu, dull atmosphere and food of a very average to poor standard. I predict this place will last 2 years tops in its current form.
We were invited along to The Trading House to try out their Hanging Haggis Kebab offering for Burns Night as well as their cocktails. Red Red Rose 6.95 Whisky, Rose liqueur and Grenadine plus a Pure and Simple Burns 7.50 Blended whisky, Vermouth, Lemon and Cloves. Both went down a treat. The Red Red Rose being a sweet tasting, delicate number with the Pure and Simple Burns like a chilled hot toddy, it packs a punch. These were like little Dutch croquettes (Kroketten) A crisp coating filled with haggis. The haggis was a little chewy but flavoursome and not fatty. Even Mrs Foodie ate them all up, and shes a bit of a huffy haggis eater. We had no idea lemon juice went with haggis , but it did. Creamy mash doused in a peppery whisky sauce kept the prospect of dry croquettes at bay. foodanddrinkglasgow.co.uk
Works Christmas lunch so as expected they v v busy. Food was good, loved my tomato soup, turkey dinner and apple/almond pie. Returned few weeks later and drinks at bar were poor and overpriced. Didn’t order a second round.
