It ticked off two criteria on our breakfast hunt: not too far from our hostel, the Castle Rock Hostel, with the option of eating outside. Right on the Royal Mile with a garden at the back, perfect for sunny days. I had the vegetarian breakfast, which was filling, but a little bland. But there’s nothing a bit of ketchup and brown sauce can’t rescue, right? The staff was really friendly, the prices reasonable and the atmosphere was great. It was a cute little cafe. chopstickpanorama.blogspot.com
Definitely a new favourite for this side of town. The secret garden was a peaceful and colourful haven for what was a really lovely breakfast. The croissant was one of the best I’ve had and the coffee was lovely and strong whilst not too overbearing. Toddler friendly too so a big thumbs up!
Yipee. I’m the first one to write a review. Two of us were searching for a place for a late breakfast and found this place at the starting of Royal Mile. Some dishes are costly for the ingredients as I ordered scrambled eggs special which was nothing but scrambled egg and beans and costs me more than 5 quids. My friend ordered a British breakfast and costs around the same had a larger servings and lot of different things and was sumptuous.
The Secret Garden. This little caf off the High street draws you in with its colourful frontage and bright spacious interior. There is a broad range of food available which is mainly British with some Turkish or Greek options. If the sun is out, there is a lovely little courtyard out the back which is a riot of plants and flowers. I took a seat there and had the lemon chicken with salad and crusty bread. It was nicely presented, fresh and tasty. The prices were fair and the service was good so a return visit is likely.
