I really like this place even if it’s not the cheapest for a quick coffee break. I like the atmosphere and I absolutely love their Mazarin, that little treat deserves a stop! themeneghingirl.blogspot.com

Peter’s Yard has fast become my favourite restaurant if I’m in uni for a long day, and has become my regular spot on friday mornings. The staff are always welcoming (maybe because they recognise us?!) and smile as we come in. The selection of treats on the central table is something that I am fast conquering, and I love their Blueberry & vanilla / Raspberry & vanilla buns. Although I can also recommend the scones and focaccias! There is such a great selection of food- the soups are always delicious, and I love the granola breakfast for early mornings. There is also a huge selection of teas from the tea menu, which are served in cute colourful tea pots. My favourite though is the hot chocolate, which is great whenever I have it.I love to sit outside, even on the colder days as they offer blankets to keep you warm! underthescottishrain.blogspot.com

Went for lunch. Had a sandwich and a hot chocolate. Loved the hint of cinnamon in the hot chocolate, just boosted it! I then had a cheeky cinnamon bun. Yum yum yum.

While Peters Yard is more of a Bakery than a coffee shop, they still need to produce coffee as good as their food.Their layout with the food in the middle of the cafe, surrounded by tables and the queue, where you pick up and carry the food to the counter to pay for it, is just odd and awkward. The coffee is more often too hot and comes across in a tarnished flavour in the coffee itself. The food though is not that bad, but the general experience just really lowers the score than I can give.

Swedish Elan. Located in the upmarket Quartermile, this scandinavian cafe was never going to be cheap. 5:20 for a latte and a doughnut probably explains why it’s not full of students !! However, full it was, so much so that I had to squeeze into a space at the window. I enjoyed my coffee and snack but it was not the relaxing experience I had hoped for. I probably picked a bad time (13:10) but I think Loudens do it better, cheaper and in a more accessable location.

Don’t bother!. After visiting the meadows festival yesterday, we fancied a coffee, so decided to give this place a try. As it was a nice day, we wanted to sit outside so went for the ‘to go’ option. Waited for AGES in the queue, well at least it must be good if it’s this busy. This queueing time was used to make choices as to what to have; several large signs giving both ‘sit in’ and ‘to go’ prices so I knew what to order when I eventually reached the till, only to be told by the cashier that we should have gone elsewhere if it was ‘takeaway’ that we wanted – and that I should have seen the signs for their other dedicated takeaway shop and would I like directions? No, I’d wait if that was ok! She took my money and I waited, and waited … another member of staff eventually came up and asked what I was waiting for, I explained and she said that I’d have to move as I was getting in the way. I’m afraid iot was at this point that I asked for a refund (which I was given without question), and I left, visiting one of the many other similar nearby establishments where we had a lovely hot drinks and slices of cake. On the way out I looked for the signs that I should have noticed saying that take away wasn’t welcome, but found none! Never mind, I shan’t return.

Great place. I finally got the chance to visit Peter’s Yard again today and it was as wonderful as ever.I met a friend there for coffee and I had a beautifully decorated latte which tasted equally as good, while my friend enjoyed an apple juice. We couldn’t resist the cakes, though had a difficult time choosing with so many tempting treats. I chose a marzipan cake, which tasted unbelievably fresh and just the right sweetness, not sickly at all. My friend went for the more interesting cardamom bun, which apparently tasted as good as it looked too.The staff were friendly and the venue has a really nice light and airy feeling. The only slight drawback is that it can get very busy, we shared the long communal table with other customers and sometimes found it difficult to hear each other. Though it is easy to see why it’s such a popular place.I particularly love the inventive toilet signs, made from gingerbread cookie cutters tied to the door, this summed up the cute, homely feel of the place. I look forward to going back to Peter’s Yard and will definitely visit when it starts to get warmer again, if not before, to make use of the large outdoor seating area.
