Had buffet lunch here and it was great. I couldn’t remember the price (around 8 I believe) but it’s worth it. The selection was not too large but it’s enough and they all tasted good. The place was clean and nice. The staff could be more welcoming, but it’s not really a big deal.

We came upon Red Fort last weekend while looking for a cheap but filling dinner in between Fringe shows. There were very few people and the buffet had been dismantled which I found a bit concerning given that it was 8:30 on a festival night. The menu was very simple which I hoped was because they chose to stick to what they were good at rather than attempt a huge array of dishes. I opted for a Bhuna, Jalfrezi and naan all of which were reasonably priced, the curry being around 8 pounds. The service was impeccable and we soon received our food.I was pleasantly surprised by the dishes, the Bhuna had a coconut base but was sufficiently spicy and the Jalfezi rice generous, theres nothing I hate more than paying for a side of rice and then not having enough to finish my curry with. All in all both my friend and I had a surprisingly lovely meal and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great quality, cheap and cheerful Indian meal.

We have eaten here at least a dozen times. 7.95 for an adult. Eat all you can buffet with a welcome soft drink and either tea/coffee or icecream. Usually 4-6 choices of curry, 2 choices of rice and nan bread. Variety of starters and hot side dishes suitable for veggies and vegans. The food is of reasonable quality. Tasty. The only down side is that you always have to tell them when there out of something at the buffet. But well worth visiting there lunch buffet.

Buffet lunch is worth a visit. Originally reviewed on http://www.edinburghspotlight.comI have enjoyed a few lunches at the Red Fort in Drummond Street thanks to their excellent buffet offer. Always busy with students who pay 6 and families that pay under 7 for an adult and 3.50 for children. This includes a welcome drink and an ice cream with tea or coffee to finish off the meal.We were welcomed by the staff and seated, but it wasn’t really explained to us how it worked and if we were allowed more than one visit to the food (we were). There are enough choices to satisfy both vegetarians and meat eaters. The choices when we dined consisted of one table with lamb madras, chicken pathia, chicken korma, chicken tikka bhuna, pilau rice and chicken chat pat.And on the other table, were the vegetarian choices of mixed vegtable pakora, chana herbs, vegetable jalfrezi, tarka dal alongside rice and nan bread. Not one to by shy of food, I piled a lot of everything on the plate and retreated to my table for a feast. The food was ok, but not outstanding. It’s certainly good value and perfect for filling up on.I had a second plateful as did my three dining partners and left ourselves too full for the ice cream for dessert. There is no corkage charge for BYOB and house wine is reasonable at 11 a bottle. Red Fort also do pre theatre dining deals. Not my favourite Indian restaurant in town, but for that price – it certainly satisfies an Indian meal fix.
