This quaint little cafe hidden away underneath the Cathedral provides a great reprieve from the bustling streets of Edinburgh. Good, simple food that doesn’t claim to be anything it’s not. My sweet potato soup served straight from the Cauldron with little Oatcakes was warming, filling and served with a smile. I would recommend this charming little cafe for a quick refuel while exploring the city.
This cafe is nicely located at the top of the high street and still has the same feel as when it was Florentines. However the menu is a little disappointing. I would have at least expected an eggs benedict or omelette rather than pastries and porridge. I had the waffle with brie and bacon which was indulgent but not fantastic. Would probably go back for hot drinks but not food. kennedytowntales.wordpress.com
Beautiful ambience but all the food and teas are so disappointing and overpriced! I had the worst carrot cake of my life with the sweetest buttercream icing. Click a pic and walk away… Do not eat here!!
I’ve been in here a few times recently and I’ve become a big fan. I regularly pop in during out tours of Edinburgh (always like to support local shops) and it always goes down well.Firstly, the staff are always friendly when I pop in and it’s always nice and warm, great for these winter months. Secondly, they do a good strong flat white (my staple) and the food selection is really tasty as well. I also like the fact they have a lot of alcohol on their menu (I’m not an alcoholic, I just like choices) so it feels a bit more grown up. Also with the outside seating that appears in summer (we do have summer here, usually for about a week in July) you could even enjoy some alfresco drinking. Perfect. iconicphototours.com
Nice quaint little place. Not much to eat. Mostly wines and a few whiskers. 2 bottled beers and average food. The servers are seasonal and don’t know much. Average place. Surprised I wrote this much
Everything is delicious. Everything my wife and I have tried at St. Giles’ has been delicious – their specialty waffle with bacon & brie is amazing, the ciabatta sandwiches are tasty, the ham & cheese croissant was great, and they have the best lattes I’ve found in Edinburgh in a week of sampling. Even the interior of the building is visually pleasing; it’s a really pleasing place to hang out, relax, and eat/drink well. Don’t pass it up! The only inconvenience we found was a lack of high chairs for little kids, although that’s not too surprising for a cafe and not a huge deal if you can leave the kid(s) in a stroller like we did.Highly recommended if you’re in Old Town Edinburgh!
Just had lunch here – soup and toasted sandwich. It was simple, but homemade and absolutely delicious! The service was excellent and the cafe has a great ambience! Absolutely recommended…a little gem just off the Royal Mile.
