Scooby Doos has been open for a few months in the Grassmarket, serving an array of daytime snacks. It struck me as being primarily aimed at the tourist market, so Id given it a wide berth, until today, but with a few nearby places taking the opportunity of an extended festive break, I thought Id give it a whirl.Todays visit was at breakfast time, so a quick roll was the order of the day. I opted for a haggis and egg double, which featured veggie haggis as the meaty variety wasnt available, on this occasion. The friendly counter man went about cooking the items to order on the grill, then loading them into a long roll, which he gave a little additional toasting. I was soon on my way, and once snaps had been taken, I tucked in as I walked. The filling was generous, and the veggie haggis had good flavour. I always think I want eggs done with runny yolks, in this situation, but when they prove to be cooked through my tie lets out a considerable sigh of relief, so I wasnt too disappointed. So overall, Scooby Doos seems to be doing a decent job. Their breakfast roll was pretty good, and while their offering doesnt look likely to set the heather ablaze, there are many worse things than being solid and reliable.ScoresBlythe scores Scooby Doos3.5/5 for food3/5 for presentation3/5 for setting3.5/5 for servicegiving an overall 13/20I ate: veggie haggis and egg rollI wore: brown pinstripesTotal bill: 2.50 lunchquest.co.uk
