As is my six-monthly ritual, today saw me take the bus to Portobello to visit my dentist for a check-up. With dental health verified, I headed for a purveyor of breakfast rolls, in this case Demarcos Deli on Portobello High Street.The interior didnt engender a warm a fuzzy feeling. Its fine, but has seen better days and could use a little refresh. The selection of deli meats and cheeses for sandwiches looked entirely more convincing, but I was in breakfast mode so ordered a bacon and black pudding roll.The friendly counter man was soon about the task of preparing items to order. These were promptly ready and once they had been topped with brown sauce, as per my usual requirement, I was on my way.Im pleased to report that the roll was very good indeed. The black pudding was of the soft, almost melty variety and was packed with flavour. The bacon was plentiful and tasty, too. It was a winner.So overall, I enjoyed my visit to Demarcos. While the decor could use a little updating, its certainly serving tasty grub so is a very appealing little takeaway spot. At 1.30 for the roll, it represented terrific value, too.
