I was excited to visit a Brasilian bar after having been to Zico’s. Ever since I started capoeira classes, I’ve been fascinated with learning more about Brasilian culture and the bar is no exception. It radiates positive energy through the staff, the music from live performances and from the DJ selection. We visited at night, but I noticed there were windows for kitchen staff serve food off their menu during the day. The range of cocktails and drinks on the menu sounded enticing, but having had some wine in the same night, I wasn’t looking to drink more alcohol and was pleased to find they kept a stock of Guarana Antartica, my new favourite soft drink. It was a pleasant night of great music, company and I would recommend this bar to anyone looking for a great relaxing night. diyshopaholic.com
Party nights. Boteco really needs to decide what it is. We (office) went for our Christmas night out, lured by the idea that we could dance there later on if we wanted. We arrived to chaos (we’re not against chaos in general) Although booked for 8.30, we didn’t sit down until 9.30 and weren’t eating until 10, at which point noise levels were reaching crescendo and the floor show (samba dance) was starting. Although we didn’t go to Boteco for a quiet sedate night of fine dining, we couldn’t hear ourselves think far less speak! The place is far too small to have all this going on and diners wanting to speak to each other too.To cap it the food was mediocre at best… the coconut pudding was the best thing. One lamb stew went back as it was over-salty (2 of us just put up with it) There were far too few staff to deal with bar, party and food management and we trully felt for them. They dealt with the situation with courtesy. In the end (11.30) we just left for home (no dancing) rather crestfallen and disappointed.
South American Sensation. This newly opened bar / diner is situated in nowhere land in the old town but is actually a nice location. The interior is colourful and spacious and there is a wide pavement area outside for al fresco dining in the summer. There is a large a la carte menu but I had the express 2 course lunch at only 5:95. Both dishes were well presented and tasty and the service was prompt and friendly. Well worth a visit and recommended.
