Second time we, a group of four friends, have eaten here. We all had different choices and all meals were wonderful. Beautifully cooked. Lovely subtle flavours. The service was excellent from the very friendly staff. Very reasonable priced. We’ll definitely return.

This week I ate dinner at True Thai Cuisine in Causewayside. We only spotted this place whilst driving passed in the bus and decided to give it a go. This fairly new restaurant is gorgeous inside. Beautiful solid wooden tables and chairs, exposed brick walls with nice Thai inspired wood carvings on the walls. The menu is fairly large with a lot to choose from and the dinner is split into Starters, Salads, Curry, Stir-Fries, Noodles, Rice and grilled dishes; and Chefs Specials. There are also banquets available for a minimum of 2 people. We decided to go for: Starters of Prawn & Pork dumplings, served with sweet soya dip. Each dish was served with 4 dumplings that were stuffed with pork and prawn. The soya sauce was one of the best sweetest stickiest most delicious sauces I’ve had in a while and a perfect accompaniment to these dumplings. For our main we had : Gaeng Som which is a king prawn sour curry with mixed vegetables, flavoured with tamarind paste. This was super hot and spicy but full of flavour. My friend ordered noodles to accompany this dish. Our waitress did recommend that this dish suits Jasmine rice better, but she wanted noodles; so noodles it was. I ate the Chicken Ben Ja Pan which is chicken stir fried with satay sauce and seasonal vegetables with peanuts with Jasmine rice. Superb dish with a great amount of vegetables with just the right amount of bite, lots of chicken and a lovely warm peanut satay sauce. The rice was fragrant and sticky. Their dessert menu isn’t the best but to be honest there really wasn’t much room. The staff are so friendly and genuine. A little slow at the start but then became very attentive. One thing to note is that although they have a drinks menu, we were informed on arrival that they have no drinks license so it was BYOB – luckily Sainsburys in right across the road. They are happy enough however to place your BYOB drinks in their fridge and serve to you when needed. They currently offer 15% off your food Monday -Thursday until 25 June so do go if you can!One of the few really good Thai restaurants in Edinburgh. I’ll definitely be back. tartanspoon.co.uk
