Whenever I am in Newington and feel like having great food I always head to Yak and Yeti. Not only because their staff is super nice, but mostly because every single dish they cook is amazing. This little nepalese restaurant is a tiny gem in Edinburgh and possibly the best place in town to have good food at a reasonable price. Make sure you try their momos (always freshly made). No matter what dish you order afterwards, they will all be beautifully presented and taste even better than they look.Love this place. madaboutravel.com
I was in wandering mode, this evening, and my travels took me to Yak & Yeti, which is just a couple of doors down from Wild, on Newington Road.Showcasing Nepalese cuisine, the place holds around thirty, in a simple dining room, peppered with relevant regional detail.I came in at a slow moment, but was soon joined by a number of parties that made a quiet Tuesday evening rather lively. The welcome was warm and service attentive throughout. They tended to the needs of regulars and first-timers with equal good grace, which is always a good sign.Their menu had some interesting dishes, one of which, the dill salmon, was my chosen starter. I followed with their lamb shank.First up was a tray of poppadoms and sauces. The mint yoghurt and garlic & tomato sauces were extremely good.The salmon soon followed, looking very neat. The waiter warned that the sauce had a good kick to it. He was right, but it was a very well judged fire. The fish was flavour-packed and impressively tasty.The lamb shank continued the very good standard, with warmly spiced on-the-bone lamb cooked long and slow for delicious tenderness. The accompanying rice and chapati were simple, but exactly as required.So overall, Yak & Yeti impressed me, muchly. The dishes I sampled were very good, and service was very accommodating. JP_42edinburgh. The meal was presented very well and were excellent in taste. We receive a first class service throught out our time from arrival to the restaurant to leaving. It has a simple but very calming atmosphere, we were not rushed and waiters were extreamly friendly and attantive. It is a good value for money.
