Everyone that frequents the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh will know the famous cheese shop, I.J. Mellis, very well. Serving over 60 cheeses from all over Western Europe, these guys are serious experts when it comes to artisan cheeses. But, did you know they had a caf in the back? Well, you do now.’Opening about six months ago, this small, rustic room (known as the ‘tasting’ room) emulates the traditional feel of the shop. With terracotta tiled floors, metal tables and French bistro chairs, this caf is unique to Edinburgh and what they have to offer, food wise, is incredibly exciting’. From cheeseboards to toasties, this caf will satisfy your cheese cravings. Undoubtedly, the boards are spectacular – the cheese speaks for itself, basically, and the toasties are only made with the finest possible ingredients. When I visited, and ‘I’m deadly serious when I say this, it was the best cheese toastie I have ever had’. They also serve coffee that ‘matches the competition of the area which, as a lot of Stockbridge regulars will know, is very high’.In conclusion, ‘if you fancy a delicious lunch in a nice setting (they also do takeaway, so make sure to pop in even when you’re in a rush) make sure to try the relatively unknown Mellis Stockbridge caf. It’s ridiculous that it isn’t more popular with what they have to offer, at a reasonable price too’.Visit my blog for the full review. the-bearded-baker.blogspot.com
