It was noon and I had just missed the breakfast menu at most establishments. That is, until I came across this cafe. Turns out it’s a chain. But if all you’re looking for is a bacon roll and strong coffee then you’ve come to the right place. I’m sure they do all sorts of sandwiches and fillings. However my mission was accomplished and it’ll be on my go to list in the future.

I have to admit, I have only ever been here for take-aways as I’m usually dashing off somwhere in a hurry. I pass this great wee deli almost everyday as its just around the corner from where I live. It’s small but perfectly formed with adequate seating inside and outside. A real suntrap on those rare sunshiney days in the Burgh and I do long to be one of those people who grab the Sunday papers, head to NT/D and sit outside lounging in the sunshine sipping on a latte or tucking heartily into one of their breakfasts! Their hot chocolates are super – takes a while to make but worth it; as is their lattes and cappuccinos. The lemon drizzle cake is soft and light sponge with a super lemon hit. I love it when the crust of the lemon drizzle cake, is caked in the lemon juice and saturates the sponge! So good. But I have to rave and give them 5* for their gluten free brownies. These are superb. Slighty crunchy outer, with a soft chocolate inner. The perfect gooiness for a brownie. They do come in a rather large portion size and can easily be halved without it looking stingy.I love their large square communal table which allows you to read the papers, place things in front of you without encroaching on someone else’s space. This place is a beehive of activity especially the kitchen. The staff are lovely. The food is freshly made every day and their soups sound and smell amazing. One day I will get the chance to relax in the sunshine at NT/D tartanspoon.co.uk
