Truly authentic flavours using the best of local Scottish produce. Busy little restaurant in a cosy setting, perfect for date night or a catch-up with friends. Good menu with plenty of choice. Highly recommended.
We like our Thai food and Siam is a short walk from home so it’s been on our to-do list for a while. They do an excellent value early bird meal which is essentially two main meals for the price of one. After yet another long week, this one felt like a no brainer. My husband ordered the beef panang curry and I ordered the drunken noodles with beef. Hubs thoroughly enjoyed his and I had a bit of the curry too, it had the right amount of kick to it but wasn’t too greasy. My drunken noodles were very tasty too but as with most things I order the portion was huge! I only finished half of it and the other half served as the following day’s lunch. The restaurant was quiet and the service was good. A pleasant experience overall! quirkylifestyle.com
We went for an early dinner on their early bird offer, so the restaurant was quiet which was great. I ordered the panang beef with rice which tasted great. I asked for a little extra chilli too.
Oh what a joy. My obsession with Thai food has just become more extreme since trying Siam restaurant under the new ownership this week. The food is extremely flavourful, fresh, authentic and beautifully presented. Pure delight for your taste-buds.
My love for Thai food has developed during the past 3 years. I’ve never lived in the city with such a high number of Thai restaurants as Edinburgh has. I’ve never been to Thailand so in this review I’ll speak for my tastebuds and from my experience of trying other Edinburgh Thai places. Siam is a newly opened place on Howe Street so it’s very convenient to visit while in New Town or Stockbridge. The setting of the restaurant is very intimate in the first room when you enter but once you pass to the room on your right, the ceiling gets higher and this room is perfect to sit in with a group of friends. We were a group of 8 seated by the window. The table was set perfectly with very funky cutlery. The host Chris and his wife were lovely and very attentive during our whole meal. I started with a glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was light and very tasty. We had some prawn crackers until the starters have arrived. This was a nice touch since most of us were starving after work. For the starter we had the honour to taste a selection of what Siam offers on their menu. There was a prawn salsa which was amazing, light and very fresh. A crispy chicken wing that was cooked to perfection and I would go back to have it anytime. The sun dried pork was very lovely and it was accompanied with a chilli sauce. This remained me of Spanish dried meats which I’m a big fan of. We also had a seared scallop with tamarind sauce which was nice but it was probably my least favourite since this was one was good but the others were simply awesome. And the last one was thai calamari which I could go back for anytime. Light and fresh, straight from the sea that day! For a main course I ordered the roast duck curry. The portion was huge and I really enjoyed it. The meat was tender and the taste very rich. For those of you who like your food hot, this comes just slightly spicy so don’t be afraid to ask the staff to make it hot for you. My fellow diner had the seafood curry and I’d probably try that next time since she said it was amazing but said the same about the spice. It’s always the first visit that you need to have to find out how the restaurant makes it to see if you can handle more spicy than that 😉 since it’s very relative. We have also had a crispy garden salad to share which was nothing like what I’ve ever tried. These were deep fried salad leaves with chicken and shrimp spicy sauce. This sauce was amazing! Had so much kick and freshness in it. This is a kind of sauce I really like in Thai restaurants! Get this dish if you feel like having something different than a regular curry. As for the dessert, I was completely full but had three spoons of their homemade sticky toffee pudding and jees, it was delicious! Tasted like heaven and it was so light! Meanwhile I managed to have a glass of their Pinot Grigio from Romania which was lovely! So if you’re wine fans you should definitely order a bottle in this place! Overall, my experience of Siam Restaurant was nothing but ordinary! Super nice staff, lovely environment and great Thai food! I definitely recommend going here, you won’t regret it!
