Sun and rain outside, not that unusual for Edinburgh in March. Inside, with a glass of a lovely light pinot and a decent structure, while snacking on a bowl of moreish truffle oil crisps. Great staff and a warm vibe to the bar, a perfect place to shelter from Spring showers.
As a cheese and wine lover, I HAD to visit Smith & Gertrude. And Oh my… This quaint restaurant in Stockbridge has it all. Fantastic atmostphere, great decoration, delicious wines and very friendly (and knowledgeable) staff. If you are craving a delicious cheese board paired with wine, this is definitely your place like it is mine.Oh, and the sweet tooths should order a slice of their chocolate and caramel brownie. Simply delicious. madaboutravel.com
First time in Edinburgh and wanted to take the fianc somewhere a bit different and away from the centre; this place was a brilliant find in a beautiful area of the city. It encompasses everything we like, great wine, great cheese, a relaxed atmosphere and great service. We got to listen to some vinyl, whilst sipping on some wines we’d never think to try. I’d definitely recommend it! The wine cellar is great and the staff really know their stuff! The service was excellent and we’ll definitely be back for a drink or to grab a bottle to take home next time we’re in the area.
Had heard there was a cheese and wine place opening in Stockbridge a while ago and was eager to try it when it opened.Relaxed and spacious place with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We went for the wine and cheese flights, which though looked a little small portion-wise, was a great way to see how food and wine can match.* And paired with a charcuterie board with lots of deliciously fatty, melt-in-the-mouth meats, bread, and butter so good I had to ask which kind it was (salted Beilleuaire, FYI ) made a pretty good dinner. There wasn’t much of the bread or butter (nor of the nice chutney that came too) but we did ask for more bread and they were happy to provide.Somehow we forgot to order any of the chocolate on the menu, or any Twelve Triangles doughnuts, but I’m sure I’ll be back to try them, just for, you know, research.*Actually, ok reflection I’m not sure if three little glasses of wine and little pieces of cheese for 17 is particularly good value…but there was nothing I didn’t enjoy and the staff were great. 22ten.blogspot.com
