Very nice ambience. The decor and the service was excellent. As a starter I had the pork, as a main the lamb and as dessert the chocolate trio which were all amazing elaborate and excellent sized portions. It was one of the best dining experiences in Edinburgh!

My friend and I visited the restaurant for an evening meal and were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of food and service. Our meal was exquisite, the fish dishes in particular were cooked to perfection and even the bread was very tasty. The set menu is very good value given the quality of the food. What a fantastic fine dining experience! This intimate, below ground-level,charming yet sophisticated restaurant is a must visit for anyone who appreciates fine cuisine in an unpretentious atmosphere. The menu is on the small side but the selection of dishes is cleverly diverse. We decided to share a few starters and a main for more variety. The amuse-bouche was Serrano ham with cheese and figs – delicious and a perfect appetizer. The scallops were expertly cooked and presented – melted in the mouth like butter. If you prefer cheese after your meal, definitely order the cheese board – it has a fabulous selection of different cheeses. Complimentary sorbet was also served as a palate cleanser. As the restaurant can’t seat more than about 30, I would say booking is essential. Do yourself a favor and visit The Stockbridge – you will NOT be disappointed. traverate.com

Fine Dining in a Relaxed, friendly atmosphere!. Recently voted the third coolest place to live in the UK by The Times, Stockbridge in Edinburgh has become a hot-spot for quirky boutiques and cosy coffee shops. Found here on St Stephen Street is The Stockbridge Restaurant, a family-run eatery which has been serving up their informal take on fine dining for the last nine years.Run by Head Chef Jason Gallagher and his partner and proprietor Jane Walker, their creative cooking is served up in a relaxed atmosphere with great service. Jason has previously been awarded such accolades as City Chef of the Year at the Scottish Chef Awards, and this is evident by the mouth-watering dishes you will be served such as grilled halibut with scallop and crab mousse, saffron crushed potatoes, caramelized chicory and a langoustine sauce, or Gressingham duck breast and confit duck potato gateaux with foie gras boudin, creamed Savoy cabbage and bacon. In the past Jason has served up dishes to famous faces including Catherine Zeta Jones and Diana Ross, and youre sure to fall for this classical cooking with a modern twist, too.An excellent bespoke wine list has been sourced from boutique wineries by Jane to ensure you have the perfect bouquet to complement the dishes. And if youre in a bit of a wine rut, Jane is also on-hand to help you find something new that youre sure to enjoy. With beautiful prints from the Scottish Colourists on the walls, a roaring welcoming fireplace and outstanding food and service, this is the perfect place to enjoy fine-dining in a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere.
