An absolute gem of a find in Edinburgh – nothing special to look at from the outside but the Belgian owner/ chef is a delight and absolutely nothing is too much trouble.Mochas are made with home-made chocolate and the French toast is the hit of the shop. I choose mine with a side of bacon and it’s served incredibly simply, a pot of maple syrup on the side, freshly griddled french toast and bacon on the side.Others opt for fruit on the side and again this is served pretty simply but it’s just right. inher30s.com

The Little Bleu. Just off the Grassmarket, this little caf has a good selection of freshly made cakes and tarts along with soup, wraps and sandwiches. Thers is also a wide range of teas and coffees and the prices are very reasonable. It’s quite compact and only really suitable for solos or couples.
Today was my second visit to Cafe Bleu, after a quick stop to sample their Myrtle espresso, a couple of months back. The place is run by an engaging Belgian pastry chef, who is full of enthusiasm for his new project. Judging by the cakes and tartes on offer, its a place that I should encourage our cakey chum Cake Quest to pay a visit.I was in need of a breakfast feed, so was pleased to see smoked salmon and scrambled eggs as an option. The owner was soon preparing things, and brought over a latte, in a half pint pot, for me to sip while the eggs were prepared. The owner was soon preparing things, and brought over a latte, in a half pint pot, for me to sip while the eggs were prepared. The interior is very eclectically decked out, with a large fish tank as something of a centrepiece. They soon arrived looking decidedly bonnie. The eggs were light and full of peppery goodness, which worked well with the saltiness of the salmon. The well-buttered cracked-wheat toast was really good, too.So overall, I found Cafe Bleu to be a really charming little place. Another relative newcomer, its challenge is to get the message out about its existence, as its in a slightly betwixt and between location. Hopefully, this review will help, as I think its a place thats well worthy of your attention.ScoresBlythe scores Cafe Bleu4/5 for food3.5/5 for presentation4/5 for service3.5/5 for settinggiving an overall 15/20 lunchquest.co.uk
