The lunch menu has a number of appealing options and as we were still fighting off the dreaded lurgy we opted to have a sandwich with extra chips.Im not quite sure what we were expecting from our sandwiches of pulled ham hock and fish fingers but we were certainly very pleased to see what arrived. Mr E quickly admitted he had never had a fish finger sandwich. The poor boy has had a sheltered life. That was all about to change. Except the fish finger sandwich was literally a massive bit of fish sandwiched between two slices of chargrilled bread. Both sandwiches were tasty. My ham hock was well cooked was the right combination of salty and sweet. Jonathans fish was fresh and crispy. It was a sizable piece of fish and much more than we had expected. The chips were so good they could almost be eaten on their own. Big, chunky, fluffy chips was exactly what we needed to help us fit the lurgy. The service was pretty quick and friendly. The list of beers is fantastic and there are more than just Innis & Gunn beers on the menu. The menu is full of tasty dishes which would work well with beer, dont expect fine dining but tasty gastropub food. The only thing I didnt like was the side of average salad. I had expected something a little more exciting. edinburgers.co.uk

Me and my boyfriend headed to the Beer Kitchen for dinner before the cinema on a Friday evening. Luckily we managed to get a table as the place was packed! Most of the customers are people enjoying after work drinks, but there were many people also having food.As the name suggests the Beer Kitchen has a huge selection of beers, Sam ordered an ale and I ordered a raspberry beer. We decided to share the haggis donut to start and I chose the fish and chips for my main; after some deliberation Sam opted to go for the lamb shank. The haggis donut was delicious but when I saw the size of my fish and chips I realised that I definitely did not need a starter! However, it was very tasty so I would recommend sharing rather than a starter to yourself. The fish and chips were also great, although I prefer slightly less chunky chips, but that’s just my personal taste. Sam thoroughly enjoyed his lamb shank too.I would definitely come back to the Beer Kitchen for a casual meal during the week or at the weekend. If you are looking for a quiet spot then this isn’t it, but I love a lively atmosphere so it was great for us.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to launch event which was fantastic and I have been itching to go back since. This time we had the intro and seasonal beer flights which meant I could introduce my friend to the delights of the rum finish and wheat beer varieties. We got some nibbles only this time which were yum and we have tasted the food previously so I know its good. When you go, try the rare oak pale ale, its superb. Probably the best bar in Edinburgh especially if you are an Innis and Gunn fan!

I’ve been to The Beer Kitchen a few times now although my favourite visit was definitely the launch event. They serve a great range of beers but those like me that aren’t that bothered about beer, there are cocktails and soft drinks on offer too. We’ve tried a couple of their burgers ( as well as a whole host of tsar sized portions from the launch event) and they were tasty and hearty. The Beer Kitchen has a great atmosphere, live music sessions and cool decor too. A great place to hang out and a winner if you want to organise a work event which caters to a variety of tastes. quirkylifestyle.com

I’ve been here on a couple of occasions, when it first opened around festival time as well as quite recently. It seems to be very busy here most nights. I haven’t tried the food here, but I like this pub for its beer selection. Love the Innis & Gunn, and would highly recommend the seasonal edition in the Bourbon Pale Ale. The Original is also a classic, along with the Toasted Oak IPA. They also serve Delirium Tremens (amazing blonde Belgium Ale) which is quite rare to find in bars.

Went here for lunch today and got a steak sandwich and soup, it was kind of a disappointment as it was just a bit average, they could have been a bit more generous with the fillings but my friend got the burger and chips which was incredible, it was like a proper homemade burger! The place itself is really quirky and staff were really nice, would definitely go back – just made a bad choice on the sandwich!

Very busy on a Wednesday night! Had booked a table and we were a little cramped in a corner but understandable as it was so packed. Having heard good things I had high expectations. The food was fine. Just fine. Salmon starter was a little tasteless and the main course beef brisket was a little on the small side. The menu is odd in that there is very few starters and desserts to choose from but lots of main dishes. I’m assuming that since they have not long opened and it’s a very busy time they are still finding their bearings in the kitchen. We enjoyed ourselves, the servers were polite and there was a great atmosphere!
