After walking along the Water of Leith walkway, a quick bite was required. Cafe Braw was just the ticket – welcoming and delicious food on offer. A cheese scone to accompany a real treat of soup – chilli beef with the offer of natural yoghurt if one felt the need to cool the spice down – no need for the latter on this occasion and oh boy – oodles of flavour. Broccoli and blue cheese quiche also hit the mark and we headed home with just a sample of the wide selection of sweet temptations to enjoy later on. A very happy encounter!This cafe is clearly well known and supported by local residents. Compostable cups, plates and cutlery is also very commendable as previously commented upon by other reviewers.
It was a dreich, miserable day the first time m’Esteemed Colleague and I first stumbled upon Cafe Braw. We’d just been to a flat viewing in Dean Village which we’d completely mistimed (we still saw the flat thankfully and ended up going for it!) but our bellies were aching and we needed some sustenance were we to even consider continuing our voyage. Thankfully this little eaterie was there to save our spirits! We sat down and almost immediately the super-friendly staff engaged us in a properly heartwarming conversation, soothing our brows after a fretful day. The food was all delicious too, and I’m very happy to have Braw on my doorstep.I’ve nipped in a few times now, what with the cafe being mere yards from my front door, and every visit has been a delight! It’s only ten minutes walk from Haymarket Station, but this wee stunner can be a bit tricky to find. The serene surroundings make it more than worth the trip, it feels a million miles from the madness and mayhem of the main areas of Edinburgh. Head North from the station, along Palmerston Place, then take a right at the Belford Hostel (It’s in a big pointy building at the end of Palmerston, you can’t miss it!) then get comfy and enjoy!PS The Thai Chicken Soup is utterly fantastic, definitely try if it’s SotD!
A delightful little gem of a deli hidden just above Dean Village (if you’re in the village I highly recommend checking it out).The staff are really excellent, honestly some of the most friendly people I have ever been served by, it seemed that they had some friends over at a large table and were prompted to join them. We of course accepted and boy am I glad we did. Situations like this rarely ever happen and it was delight to converse with some total strangers for a short snack. The food is marvellous and extremely cheap! I had salt beef and potatoes dauphinoise and it was delectable, for only 3.50 it was a complete steal!Highly recommend this place.
