Set away from the city centre and nearer the Haymarket area of Edinburgh, Carters is a cracking little pub to to sink a few beers and relax in. Carters is small, there’s no denying that. Fit 30 people in the downstairs bar area and it’s going to start to feel a bit of a squeeze. But it’s a cosy, intimate setting with quirky touches and a vibrant, friendly atmosphere that make Carters worth the visit. There’s not much to shout about in terms of beer; just a few standard lagers with the odd surprise ale thrown into the mix, but it’s good enough. The music is good to, with classic rock and indie being played at an audible level. Football fans will rejoice too, as the large screen television draws in a good crowd on match days. And no, Carters is not one of those pubs that has the volume switched off. There’s a staircase at the back that leads to a small mezzanine floor when live music takes centre stage on weekends. Be sure to drop by and catch a few of the acts as the level is usually excellent.
