The food was pathetic – apart from tandoori roti, everything else we ordered was a waste of money. The paneer was hard and not at all cooked, gravy was not even cooked. The ambiance was supposed to show the rich heritage of India and I was surprised to see that the map of India itself was made incorrect. Cheers!

WORST RESTUARANT IN THE UNIVERSE. THE OWNERS OF MUMBAI MANSION ARE HORRIBLE, STUPID, AND IDIOTPEOPLE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT THE CLIENTS OR TALK PROPERLY. THEY DO NOT KNOW THE TIMINIGS OF WHEN THE RESTAURANT IS OPEN OR NOT. THEY HAVE SERIOUS ATTITUDE PROBLEM. THE CHEF IS EVEN WORSE. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED ASAP. I HAD SEVERE INTERNAL BLEEDING AFTER EATING THEIR RAW FOODAND WAS ADMITTED IN HOSPITAL FOR 2 DAYS. MY FRIEND ON THE OTHER HAND WENT INTO COMA. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO MUMBAI MANSION.BAD SERVICE. HORRIBLE ATTITUDE OF WAITERS AND OWNERS. HORRIBLE ENVIRONMENT.FOOD IS OUTRIGHT BLAND.

Mumbai Mansion turned out to be a very good experience. We ordered chicken karhai, tarka dal, bombay potato, mutton biryani, garlic naan bread and tawa chapati. Each of the items was spot on – just the right amount of spices without being oily. The tarka dal was as good as it gets. The mutton in the biryani could have been softer but the taste was very good.Good atmosphere in the restaurant and polite and helpful servers.

Excellent service, very attentive and friendly staff, from owners to waiters and chef! I never go anywhere lese for my saag paneer! Very sad they close between 2-5 though! Maybe you could open at 4 instead of 5? I had to go elsewhere for my saag paneer and that OTHER place gave me food poisoning…Mumbai mansion is definitely the best indian restaurant in Edinburgh 🙂

It’s all about the bass. Tried this place out on a Wednesday evening after craving Indian food all day. I was playing it safe and ordering just a main course of familiar faire, but the chap that runs the place was the having none of that. He brought out a complimentary seabass starter for me to try too. I can see why he did, it was a highlight – perfectly cooked and really flavourful. Turns out seafood is a speciality of the place and it’s really the thing to eat here. The only downside is that you can’t be lazy when ordering. I was and I wish I’d had a seafood main too. 🙂

The menu at The Mumbai Mansion is not your standard Indian fare. Scallops, Monkfish, Venison all feature in the starter selections. There is also a number of mains cooked on the grill, including lobster, lamb and duck. Whilst most of these dont sound like staples of Indian cooking, they are still cooked with the same range of spices and sauces which provides a unique take on the dish, but with that unmistakable Indian spice and flavour. There is also a selection of more traditional curries such as Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken and Chicken Karahi.I ended up going for the Scallops and Mussels to start which was served with a Nilghiri sauce. Miss Edinburger went for the Venison Boti, marinated in honey and pineapple. The scallops were substantial and cooked perfectly as were the mussels, the Nilghiri sauce was light and tasty and went very well with the scallops and mussels, almost like an Indian seafood soup. It was also served with a garlic flatbread which was perfect for soaking up the sauce. The Venison again was cooked really well, great texture and taste along with the honey and pineapple marinade. For the main course I was torn between the lamb and the monkfish however Merwyn highly recommended the whole leg of lamb so I went with that. Miss Edinburger went for the more traditional Butter Chicken and we both ordered a saffron and cumin pilau rice each and a tandoori roti to share. The Lamb was fantastic, it was served already cut from the bone but was placed back around the bone for serving. The lamb is cooked in the tandoor and came with a tomato and onion based sauce. The meat was cooked perfectly, melt in your mouth and the sauce complimented it very well. There was also a substantial amount of meat in the dish, enough to keep hungry people like myself satisfied! The butter chicken whilst not quite on a par with the lamb was also very tasty. A lovely creamy sauce with well cooked chicken and again a good sized portion. The saffron pilau rice was nice and light and not too overpowering and the tandoori roti light and tasty. Both sides set off the mains well. After such successful starters and mains of course we had to go for the hattrick and order a dessert each. I went for the Callebaut Hot Chocolate Mousse with fresh orange and ginger ice cream and Miss Edinburger went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with toffee sauce, orange, crumble, vanilla ice-cream and fennel crisps. Having a dessert isnt really something we would usually do in an Indian Restaurant so the dessert menu on offer was just another bonus. The chocolate mouse was very rich (just how i like my desserts) and the fresh tangy taste of the orange with the ginger ice cream went perfectly. The sticky toffee pudding was also very tasty and moist just as a sticky toffee pudding should be.We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to The Mumbai Mansion. The food was excellent, the service also. We really couldnt fault it at all and can certainly see ourselves making a few return trips in the near future. edinburgers.co.uk
