Small, quaint. Finishing up a week long stint of training in Mississippi, we were on our way back to Indiana when the hunger pains hit again. We were nearing the city of Athens where a week prior, we had stopped to find the awesome establishment of Luvici’s. But we wanted to switch it up a bit and find another place, so looking once again on the list of top ranked restaurants in town, Wildwood seemed like it was a good choice.Had I not read one review prior to coming here, I would’ve assumed that Wildwood had just opened a month prior. It was very clean and new looking on the inside, but the space was so cramped, it seemed as if the proprietors were waiting to get enough capital to move along into a bigger facilitiy. Literally this place has 6 tables I think. However, we were the only ones in there at 1 in the afternoon on a weekday. Your food is made one at a time because quite frankly, there is little room for a large kitchen.A large majority of our guys elected for either the Reuben, the Italian or the Club sandwich. There were cries of the Reuben being too small, but a quick look at the prices on the menu should’ve hinted at that fact. If you’re a man’s man, you’re not going to get out of Wildwood for under 12 bones. My bill actually rang up to around $16 because I elected to have their soup of the day (potato cheddar or cheesy potato, something like that) so all in all, it was NOT a cheap lunch. As for the Italian and Club sandwiches, they were good and plenty large, but the Italian depended too much upon the Italian dressing added to it and the Club depended too much upon the mayonnaise added to it. Take those things away and both sandwiches would’ve fallen flat on their face. I would’ve liked to see more emphasis on spices added to them or some sort of buttery spread on the bread that would’ve soaked in and melded with the sandwich. Regardless, these sanwiches will appeal to 95% of the clientele that come through their doors.Overall, I wish Wildwood the best of luck and business and hope that they can expand their menu and location (as nice as their current one is though) and become a permanent mainstay in the city of Athens.

Good subs but….. When we discover this place the food was amazing! out of the ordinary.. you could taste the love in it. even though they change owners, the food was still good…. last time was horrible, our subs were flooding in mayo and there was no seasoning, too bland.. yuck! Then we decided to give it another try after a few months but the place was full (go figure) so that might be a good sign now! We will give an update soon =)
Best sandwich ever!
Something very special!. My husband & I absolutely love this place! If you like good food you should really check it out! Not to mention the service is great, always a smiling face and just a warm cozy atmosphere surrounds you. We just need one in the Huntsville or Madison area!
