Chex Lulu is one of my Birmingham favorites. The food is always good. The olive tapenade along with the freshly baked bread from Continental is amazing! Often I’ll pick it up along with either the fresh feta or blue cheese and it becomes an easy dinner at home. I guess this is really a review of both Chez Lulu and Continental Bakery!
Always great and a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. Food and wine selection is classic, fresh and delicious. A favorite in Birmingham for lunch and brunch, and a fun quiet spot for dinner!
Poor form. Went to chez lulu which my wife and I have frequently gone to over the last few years and have to agree the service has drastically deteriorated recently. I had to flag down a waiter to get a menu, then flag a separate one to get an order. So I ordered and ham and normal crepe as a starter and proceeded to enjoy it and finish it, then the manager came out and publicly kicked me and two other tables out assuming I was a non paying customer from the bakery. Afterwards I called to inform them of my displeasure and was given a halfhearted apology. To think I wasted 30 minutes and gave them some of my money absolutely disgusts me.
What happened?. Chez Lulu has always been a favorite spot for great meals and relaxed dining. Recently, however, the food has been terribly disappointing and the prices quite high for what is served. The updated paper menu is scaled down and lacking. While the location is great, it will be a while before we try it again.
Food was cheap and tasty! The waitress was a little odd and awkward but the food came out quickly and delicious! Freshly baked goods and yummy. Definitely will go back
The worst service I have ever received at a restaurant… ever. Recently went with a friend, ordered 2 ham and cheese sandwiches for the both of us, and 2 hours into the meal when everyone around us had finished their entrees, we had yet to receive our 2 pieces of bread with ham and cheese in the middle. After asking our waitress, who was taking other people’s dessert orders, about the holdup, she seemed unaware that we had even ordered anything and came back quite awhile later to declare that they had run out of ham. After another fifteen minutes with no acknowledgement from the manager and a measly apology from the waitress, we walked out with with empty stomachs, disappointed and angry about the 2 1/2 hours we had just wasted. Unless you are breaking up with someone or firing an employee, don’t even bother.
Fave pizza in town. Not always the most consistent spot, but the pizza has always been right on. The servers usually know what’s up. The beautiful goddess/former rock star trained under master baker Lionel Poilane (I believe).. Anyway, the bread is great. Traditional French bakery and it’s restaurant companion. Carol will you marry me? Xoxoxo
