Update June 24, 2016On today’s visit thought the pizza was much better than on my previous visit. Sauce was better balanced, much less acidic, and there was more cheese on top. So it moves a few notches up my list of pizza providers in Foley and the South Baldwin County area.*************************************Opened in December 2016. Standard business hours. This is a small, cramped dining area with maybe eight or so tables. There are also a few stools in the front of the bar. You can watch the chefs work in the open kitchen. On the plus side, when weather is good, there is access to a large patio area. This is also where the bathrooms are located. The menu is extensive, ranging from appetizers, to salads, to pasta specials such as lasagna and manicotti, as well as five different sandwiches and subs. Pizza can be bought by the slice, which is not standard for this area.Tried two slices of pizza, one pepperoni and one sausage. It was decent for way down South, where good pizza is difficult to find. Being born and raised in the NYC area, where family owned Italian eateries were always a few minutes away, my standards are high. The meat lasagna is a good deal, a large portion for $8.99.Less impressed with the meatball sandwich. Traditionally this is served on a sub or hoagie roll not bread slices. The meatballs were okay. Could have used more seasoning. The fries were limp. A few more minutes in hot oil would have been beneficial. This is a major problem in too many restaurants.Another Italian place a few blocks away has excellent pies, but not a slice option The specialty and gourmet pizzas are, in my opinion, priced a bit higher than those in similar restaurants in the South Baldwin County area. These range from $16 to $22. However, the list of toppings is more extensive and unique, (e.g., shrimp, crayfish) than at other similar eateries. Their Facebook site (@mammamiapizzeriafoley).
