Green Mole. I went for an early dinner, feeling tired and hungry. My server recommended mole con pollo (chicken with mole sauce). It was amazingly flavorful. The thick, rich mole had layer upon layers of flavor. Clearly, I had found the holy grail of authentic Mexican food on the Gulf Coast. Then my hosts offered me a sample of their green mole. I had never heard of it, so of course I accepted their offer. Wow! It was as flavorful as the traditional mole, but with an entirely different flavor palate. It was creamy and thick and full of fresh herbs and seasonings. The warm steamed tortillas were a perfect excuse to sop up every bit of it. (I would have licked the plate if I were not in public.) I was the only gringo in the restaurant and they greeted me like a welcome guest. If you want the real deal, come here. It is not fancy. It is not overpriced. It is authentic Mexican food expertly prepared.24 Dec, 2010Authentic and unpretentious. This is the quintessential Mom and Pop restaurant. All the food is made on the premises. The tortillas are fresh and highly addictive. The salsa has the perfect balance of seasonings. I went there one night looking for some comfort food, and I hit the jackpot. The owners are very friendly, and I felt more like a guest in their home than a customer in a restaurant. After eating here, it is hard to justify going to a chain Mexican restaurant. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of the freshly prepared food.
