  We have eaten at other Shrimp Basket locations before; this was our first visit to the new Gardendale location. This location is actually bigger than the one in Homewood and a little nicer. However, the music was to loud and we could hear the staff getting into an argument about gumbo that had been spilt in the kitchen and who was going to clean it up. One waitress emphatically told a manager, in the dining room, that she was not going to clean it up under any circumstances because someone else had made the mess. Our waitress was somewhat inattentive, she only checked on us once, between taking our orders and getting the check, and we had to flag her down because our table did not have a salt shaker. Needless to say, the ambiance (due to the loud music and the staff argument) and the service left a lot to be desired. The food was ok; not great but not bad. The steamed shrimp were very good, but a little on the cool side. The potatoes and corn that came with it were both very cold and severely lacking in flavor (hence the need for salt). The fried shrimp were good; but the onion rings they can with were clearly pre-frozen and were dripping in grease, so much so that grease was about all we could taste. I will give this location the benefit of the doubt because it is new, so I will settle on a score of 3.0 and we will try it again to see if our experience is better. If it is, I will either write a new review or update this one.
