A restaurant that feels like a hug…. Cozy, hospitable, and every bite absolutely delicious! Consistently excellent each visit.
Best food and best service around. Never disappoints!
A favorite, no doubt. I love this place. The food is honest and good. Today I tried the special of the day, which happened to be Panko Crusted Red Fish. This was possibly the greatest piece of fried fish I have ever had. It was not greasy at all, and the breading was perfect. The texture of the fish inside was just exactly how you want it to be, flaky. I decided to splurge today and try a dessert. I opted for the Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding. This was another win. I can’t say enough nice things about this place. The owner is always present and this, I think, is what makes this place stand out. The care that is put in to the food is absolutely evident. Go. Now. You will not be disappointed.
Disappointing desserts. Disappointed in the desserts! We ordered 3 and they were all bad, couldn’t eat and I have a huge sweet tooth!
Tastebuds are clapping!!. Thank you for making the meat and 3 veggies so good! You know this place is good when it is filled at lunch like the old OLLIE’s . So happy I popped in to check it out. This is my new favorite restaurant in Birmingham..
Yum!. Let me get my gripes out of the way first. You have to walk up a couple of short flights of stairs to get to Johnny’s. This means my mom, who uses a walker, will never get to eat the fine fare I enjoyed at lunch today. (Is there a ramp? did I just overlook it?)There are no posted instructions or signs to tell the newbie what to do. I made the mistake of sitting at a table and waiting for a server but it turns out you go to the counter and order your lunch. Then they give you a numbered card to put on the table and when it’s ready someone brings it to you. Drinks are self serve. All of that is fine, but it would be nice if I didn’t have to figure it out after sitting at a table for a few minutes.Okay, gripes are out of the way. Excellent meat and three! I had the chicken pot pie and I’m now spoiled for any other chicken pot pie anywhere. TONS of chicken, a rich broth all topped with a wonderful flaky crust. It’s a top crust pie only. I wouldn’t object to a bottom crust. It could use a few more veggies in it and maybe a tad more seasoning, but those are just nitpicks. It’s very good. The mac n cheese is also a treat. Some of the best I’ve had outside my own kitchen. I wasn’t thrilled with the fried green tomatoes. They lost some of their crispness and it would be nice to have something to dip them in. No worries, tho; I’ll just get one of the umpty-ump other veggies next time. The roll that came with the meal was an unexpected treat. Huge, light, yeasty with a definite homemade taste. I’m sure butter is available but I didn’t think to ask for any. Next time.If you are anywhere near this place at lunch time check it out. One of the best meat and three’s in Jefferson/Shelby counties.
Just Right!. This community needed this place..Absolutely fantastic! I will go back time & time again. We sell Real Estate in Homewood & anytime I have someone new to the area I make sure they do not miss this place. Food is always spot on & friendly staff.Enjoy…Danielle & Billy Wade
