Excellent! Pizza was perfect. Sauce was delicious. Although not a Cubs fan, I loved all of the Chicago sports items on the wall. Will be back again!…

Ok so we had heard such high things about this place. I love Chicago deep dish pizza. I mean love. Well my heart was broken tonight. For one the pizza cost about $19.00. So with a $19.00 pizza you have certain expectations. For one I don’t expect my sauce to be tomatoes out of the can (clearly) and literally have no taste and seem as thought the only flavor that was tried to be infused into it was a dashing of dried Italian herbs at the last second. Secondly and probably my biggest most unexplainable shocking thing was the bottom of the pizza. It was a soggy mess and I mean I took a picture that’s how bad I am talking about. It looked cooked on the bottom but it was like some one put water on the counter and just sat the pizza on top before they brought it out. I honestly don’t have anything positive I can say about the pizza. It really didn’t have any flavor at all. Obviously as I pointed out the crust was ruined by I don’t know what and the sauce if that’s what we want to call it was a pathetic excuse. I really wanted to love this place because I so miss that hearty deep dish Chicago pizza that truly makes us all feel like part of that Chicago mob family.
Tortugas pizza 2801 John H…. Tortugas pizza 2801 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, AL 35244Popped in to try tortugas pizza on hwy 150 tonight and was highly impressed with the service. The counter guy was extremely courteous and helpful as well as being very friendly without being over powering. A frosted mug came with each round of beer and complimentary garlic bread with marinara was delish. I ordered a extra crispy thin crust carne with jalapeos and it was just right! As I sat and watched some folks waddle out I realized the Chicago style pie they serve here must be very popular. I also learned they will be opening a new store near railroad park in downtown Birmingham. Obviously they’ve been doing their homework. Good job Tortugas! I’ll definitely be back. Best pizza feels like home. I lost count how many years i have been going. It is a poverty for bham they quit doing lunch every day. Its the best pizza period. But so much more, the best bleu cheese dressing i have ever had, and you can buy their homemade dressings to go, but when you are there you feel like family, and that is something no one else can offer, and because of the genuine warmth and awesomeness of the owners, and that is why i go. The food being next level is great, but people that get tortugas go for one reason, it feels like home. I will still put their pizza up against any other
Authentic…. This is just like the stuff you get up north. Very good pizza at a reasonable price. Service is awesome too!
Great pizza. The only Chicago style pizza place in the south that taste like it should be in Chicago. Great food and great service.
Not sure what the hype is all about…. We have only tried Tortugas once. Staff was friendly. I was ok with the wait to get the pizza (these things take time). But I was not fond on the dough AT ALL. It reminded me of canned biscuits. Growing up, I would take cheap canned biscuits, push into a muffin pan, top with Ragu and assorted topics. Tortugas reminded me of that…and not in a good way. The dough was just bland…
Best pizza in Alabama. Took my party of 6 there on Saturday night. Was greeted warmly at the front, shown to our table promptly, drinks were delivered and food was ordered. Shared an antipasto salad while waiting for the pizza and the homemade dressing was fantastic. Pizzas arrived at around the 40 minute mark, which is expected for a Chicago style deep dish pie. Pizza was the best I have had since moving to Alabama in 1990. Owners came round a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and thanked us for coming upon our exit. I would HIGHLY recommend Tortugas if you like pizza and have the time to let a master create a work of culinary art.
